Now, as you mention it...  :D

BTW, here a target I shot with this rifle recently with Sellier & Bellot 180 gr FMJ factory loads, 5 shots from the sandbag, distance 100 m. That the results are not better is hardly the fault of the rifle, but due to my little rifle shooting skills.

Thanks, gents. Bought this rifle about three months ago for 249 Euros. Actually I was looking for an excellent Finnish M39 at that time, but couldn't find any. A shooting club friend gave me the advice to look for a Hungarian or Polish Mosin-Nagant instead - very nice, well-made rifles, mostly found in unissued, all-matching condition and more easily available after his opinion. Okay, no Polish ones to find also and I didn't really want a carbine, too. So I turned my attention to the Hungarians. At that time it was the only Hungarian Mosin-Nagant on the market here in Germany, so the price was close to the upper limit for such rifles here. About a month later popped up a good handful of them at the same time in auctions here, also in very good, unissued condition for the most part - they went typically for prices between 100-150 Euros. But one which could have been a clone of mine from the auction pictures was sold for incredible 74 Euros! If I only had waited a little bit longer...

My example was imported from Hungary in unissued condition in the mid-1980s by the German company "Frankonia Waffen" at Würzburg/Bavaria - the largest importer of military surplus rifles here in Germany since decades. At that company one of the bosses at once took this rifle for his personal collection, where it remained until recently, when this guy gave up collecting due to his age. A former Frankonia employee who is now running a small arms dealer business bought it and in turn sold it to me.

Due to the limitations imposed on me by our German firearms laws (can buy a maximum of just 4 weapons per year) I'm only looking for rarer rifles or at least ones in the best possible condition (best case would be rare and mint, of course) - even if they might be a little bit more expensive. It makes no sense in my eyes to "waste" my small yearly contingent with run-of-the-mill stuff. Maybe I'll come out of this limitation in future if I manage to get granted a collector's licence, but that's a hard and expensive way with uncertain outcome...

249 euros is about 340 US dollars. If that rifle was put up for auction here with all of the pictures you have I can see it easily hitting 1000.00 US, and substantially more if the right bidders see it.

Good to know. Seems that this is something of a "reverse" M1903 Springfield effect. M1903s of all variants are hard to obtain here in Germany and rather expensive. And if you are looking (like me) for an untouched one (i.e., original stock with all proper markings, original barrel in good condition etc.) 1,000-2,000 Euros are more the rule than the exemption. But to find them at all is the bigger problem here...

I would exceed $500 for that one easy. $1,000? That would be too rich for me.

Very nice presentation. Certainly the finest Hungarian 9130 I have ever seen. Did all the accessories come with this rifle? If so, even in Euros, this rifle was a steal. Easily $1K in dollars here. Easily... Magnificent

No, the rifle came "naked", bayonet, sling, oilers, cleaning kit items I bought separately. About another 70-80 Euros alltogether.

Amazing. Those types of accessories in the U.S. are far and few between...

Great insight to hunt & actually find those accessories... It really adds to the whole package! 8-)
