I plan on doing that with one of mine soon. I am also intrigued with how some are making them into upright displays. Still debating...

That is really good looking. I like the idea of an upright too. Maybe even set into a wall or.........

Thank you guys, I've got $6.00 in wood for the frame (took original lid off and put away to keep) $38.00 in 1/4" glass and just reused the original screws and hinges and latches. I'm looking at putting in some lights as soon as i find some battery ones. Really didn't want to drill any holes in it, not yet anyway.

Looks good. I bet amazon will have lights you will like.
Did you paint the top to match the rest of the crate?
GSragtop - check out a company called Binswanger - they seem to be easy to find and had good prices on glass.

I once gave serious thought to doing a gun cabinet using a coffin, then I found how much coffins cost.....

I got my 2 about 5 years ago at AIM. It had some nasty scratches so I took a splinter with some color on it and Home Depot computer matched the color. You have to really look to find the touch up.

What are your guys thoughts on taking the glass out and having stencil etched in small print MOSIN NAGANT down either side? I haven't seen it done yet anywhere...
