This Mosin went through a rough refurb (the bluing was sloppy, some serials restruck, and some of the stamping seems like it was done by a Russian with way too much vodka in him), but I'm not used to seeing a Mosin without a emblem at the top of the receiver of a hammer and sickle. Is there anything special about this hex receiver?
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

Endless variation, but with so many millions of them produced it's surprising we don't see more variation.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Funny thing about collectibles...if you have one like this, that is not a documented variation, then it isnt anything special. If a small number of these turn up, then it might become the thing that collectors are going to prefer above the run of the mill mosins. Kind of like the red letter mosins. The above statement is only my opinion, of course.

Only have 2 more pictures of it. The rest of the receiver has no markings except for the wonderful importer stamps. The bolt on the other hand had a matching serial #, Izhevsk stamps, and a small star stamped on the extractor.
I have a CAI import 1943 Izhevsk that does not have the arsenal mark. I also guess it was scrubbed or someone goofed or maybe some anti-communist during refurb?

Weird thought - I own some Swiss rifles, and that "3 inside a circle" stamp would mean that the rifle went through one of their canton's arsenals. Seems to be obvious though, that the Swiss wouldn't send a 91/30 to one of their canton's arsenals for a refit. ;)
