1944 VKT M39
1944 VKT M39
I got this one from Pat Burns. It is a 1944 VKT. No unusual marks that I can notice. The tang has been scrubbed. On the one side of the buttstock you can see and feel some tape residue. She may be kinda plain and show that been there done that look but I likey. I haven't shot it yet but in dry firing I really like this trigger compared to my 91/30's.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I did notice the front sight blade is marked 90... that just seems higher than the others I have seen.

I think you will be pretty impressed by how she shoots. My M39's are my favorite to take to the range. Congrats on the new Finn and I'm pretty sure it won't be the only one in your collection for long.
Re: 1944 VKT M39
Nice. I gots to find me one of these.
Re: 1944 VKT M39
There will be more many M39's in your collection!!! Nice pickup.

I have a 91 coming. It is supposed to be the highest one.
Re: 1944 VKT M39
I also recently acquired a 1944 VKT M39 from Pat Burns.

Like yours mine also had the tape on the stock which I was able to remove with GooGone. Mine also has no date on the receiver tang but I don't believe mine was scrubbed. Check yours again for markings as apparently French and US receivers did not have tang dates. And the number stamped on your front sight should be 9.0 not 90. mine is stamped 8.9 Anyway great rifle and I will be shooting mine in about 6 hours.

Nice rifle. Pat Burns seems to be a good source for quality. I like the VKT rifles. You dont see them quite as much as the Sako. I have a '44 VKT in a post war stock.

Re: 1944 VKT M39
Great looking rifle! I have bought before over the years from Patricia Burns and never had a problem. Their prices have gone up in the last 2-3 years for their Model 39's and they now seem to have begun starting "to scrape the bottom of the barrel". Anyone know why their 1891 bayonet prices have jumped from USD$69.95 to $149.95? Just 2 years ago their bayonet price was $49.95.
Re: 1944 VKT M39
The tang date is deffinatly scrubbed. The blueing is missing and you can see grinder marks. I hope that it shoots as nice as everyone says. I am planning on taking it to Camp perry and shooting it in the vintage match this summer. First though I will give her a whirl at some local matches. When I took it apart I was being cautious of the shims only to find out they were all pinned down. lol
Re: 1944 VKT M39
If 9.1 is the highest then with a 9.0 hopefully I will be about on at 100yards or better yet a 6 oclock hold. Just hopefully I wont be aiming off the paper like my 91/30s.
Re: 1944 VKT M39
I fired mine today with 8.9 on the front sight and was right on at POA at 100 yards.

How was the target when you were done?

Probably feeling rather holely.

Re: 1944 VKT M39
That is pretty good. I hope mine shoots that good. I just wish I could see some of that green stuff in the background. too much snow to go shooting so I just been shooting air rifles in the basement. It just don't itch the scratch like the real thing.
