Another T-53? - Somebody Stop Me!!

Post by qz2026 »

I just can't say no when an inexpensive little gem like this shows up. I was attracted to the stock but even more because absolutely nothing matches on this rifle. All four serial numbers are different. :D But it operates flawlessly, passes no-go better than most, has one of the best M-44 triggers I have felt and has a great bore. As usual it was packed with the most disgusting black, nasty, viscous twice used truck bearing grease which includes various and assorted plant life, hair and God knows what else, that is so common with these Balkan/Albanian imports and several Yugo's I have cleaned. But under that mess was a really nice rifle in a better than usual stock. The inside of the stock cleaned up much better than I thought it would. Even with all my tricks I wasn't able to get the cleaning rod lug out and it is jam packed with dirt (I hope it's dirt anyway). So, this one won't get a cleaning rod. Hummm, maybe if I grind a point on an old commercial cleaning rod... Maybe we should start a category only for rifles with four different serial numbers. The stock is Chu.

I had the same problem with a cleaning rod lug. I ground an old piece of rod I had laying around to a four sided point. The rod was smaller diameter than a cleaning rod but large enough to be solid. I worked it in with a hammer then turned it with a vise grip. Repeat. After a while I was able to get the cleaning rod to thread in. I put the cleaning rod in 5 or 6 times before the threads came out clean and I didn't have to use a lever in it to thread it in.

Don't cry for help here. Buy, buy, buy!
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Ok if you insist I will try and help, follow these steps not necessarily in order:

Head for the local Dunhams to check and see if they have any

Try the LGS's next to see if they have any

Try the local Big 5 when on the west coast

Try Fleet Farm if in the heart of the country

Try Cabello's to see there Molots and check for more T-53's

Try and see what is available online

Try the local classifieds

Try the local sale papers

If you keep trying then I have helped you and that is my mission! Oh that's right you wanted to stop so stop by all those places and see how you do? Sorry I am just another enabler no matter how hard I try! Bill

Very nice! I know what you mean...I share your enthusiasm. After cleaning and reselling I am up "4 keepers", 2 all matching. Trying to get one good example from each year (WHY?).... I think your floor plate is 1953. I AM STILL LOOKING FOR A NICE 1953.9! These things are so much fun to shoot! A true 30 cal plinker!

Nice. I finally got my '53 this year. I am starting to move some of my non matchers out but I'll never sell this one. It's just too cool to sell. It's not just T-53's that get me going. I have the same illness for EBLOC M-44's too. OK, most any Mosin carbine... :? Is this post part of a three step process? Perhaps, but it doesn't help at all, especially with the likes of Millman and Zeebill's encouragement, and I don't want it to help :D I'll buy, buy, buy if the right ones show up

No Bill, You have the right approach to the problem. If he keeps buying from these places, then eventually he will run out of money. There for, you "stopped" him! Good job!
