Re: Broomhandle c96 help
Do "NOT" shoot Tokarev ammo in it!!! way to hot.......30 Luger is what you need.

30 Mauser only, these are way too old to be using hot ammo, or the wrong ammo in.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Yes, do not. It is not only too hot although it looks almost the same, it is not. What is the finish, Duracoat?Glock Man wrote:Do "NOT" shoot Tokarev ammo in it!!! way to hot.......30 Luger is what you need.

This is a German export model to China. There is three Chinese characters "made in Germany" on bottom of magazine in first pic.

Re: Broomhandle c96 help
Cool Avoid the Tokarev ammo, while it may not blow the pistol up, it will beat it to death from what I was told when I got mine.
I'd be very interested to know the condition of the bore, these are not known for pristine bores. Mine, while it shoots, is pretty close to a smooth bore, only a hint of rifling remains.

Re: Broomhandle c96 help
I love my 1913 C-96 and would not sell it under any condition. But the bore looks like a shotgun.
Re: Broomhandle c96 help
Tokarev ammo and 30 Luger will not work. The only cartridge that works is of course the 30 Mauser. Yes the Tokarev ammo will chamber and fire, but you are in the red zone as far as safety is concerned. BTW there are several smiths who will alter the barrel to shot 9mmm or the original 30 M. This is done by re barreling and I do not recall the cost but as the pistol is not in the collector grade I would consider the 9mm chambering. The money you would save by using the 9mm would soon pay for the work done and you will have a safe pistol to use.

Rebarreling may indeed improve it's shooting characteristics, but would be altering it's history permenantly, I do not recommend that.

Re: Broomhandle c96 help
heres my thought on re barreling it ! This gun has been re parked and I wont know its condition till I get it . If it has riffling left I will leave it , most of my guns get test fired and put away. So re barreling isn't worth it . I have other guns that I can use.
If its in OK shape I will start reloading for it .

There are all manner of things you "CAN" do that you really should "NOT" do.
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

Re: Broomhandle c96 help
I have a C96 myself as well as a a CZ52 and the Mauser reload I shoot will not chamber in my CZ52 but the Tokarev round would chamber in the C96. about the only difference in the cartridge dimensions is at the shoulder and it is only slight. I have to be really careful to keep them separated. That Tokarev round is a lot hotter than the Mauser round.
Re: Broomhandle c96 help
You can still find 30 Luger ammo here and there at gun shows and such. Even being parked that was a good price these days for any 08.
My M1930 08 also has a smooth bore.

Re: Broomhandle c96 help
i have picked up 250 new factory rounds and 500 new brass , and placed an order for bullets. The pistol is sitting at the dealer waiting for me
Re: Broomhandle c96 help
Do not use .30 luger(or 7.62 Tokarev) in a C96. Use only .30 Mauser.gurn wrote:You can still find 30 Luger ammo here and there at gun shows and such. Even being parked that was a good price these days for any 08.
