Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Awesome pick-up! I'd never seen a Finn capture m38 in a second pattern stock.
On Facebook? Check out the non-sporter preservationist group at: OOOPS. Deleted by Facebook because it's evil to even discuss collectible firearms on social media these days.

People probably kept taking his rifle so he marked it. ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
The interesting part is in script writing versus a crude knife carve. Like he signed it then traced over it a couple times with something sharp. Maybe you'll be able to find out some info on the man. Like my all time favorite gun thread. A. Bierkle's 1917 S&W revolver

This is a great carbine. Finnish carbines (other than the M38 Carcanos) really are quite difficult to find.
Where/how did you acquire this carbine?

It was listed on Gunbroker. Paid $660 with shipping.shmlnaaa wrote:This is a great carbine. Finnish carbines (other than the M38 Carcanos) really are quite difficult to find.

And with some more help from Bugelson, and on a very somber note, there were nine fallen veterans of the Winter and Continuation Wars with the rank (private) Sotamies, who very well could have been Stm. Saloranta.

(type in Finnish surname under "sukunimi" and click on "Hae")

Thanks. I haven't been lurking gun broker much lately, but that's not usually the case. I also still need one of these carbines (along with so many others). It seems I have solidly missed the boat on the mismatched ones being sub $500 guns! They still aren't too expensive for what they are IMO, though the all matching ones have achieved some rather impressive prices lately without a doubt.
