1944 No5 MkI carbine with rare MkII rear sight
1944 No5 MkI carbine with rare MkII rear sight
The stars aligned and I was finally able to acquire a good WW2 example of a No5 carbine this past weekend. Other than not being significantly refurbished since WW2, the best part about it is the fact that it's equipped with the rare MkII rear sight. The MkII rear sight was produced during WW2, but was declared obsolete right after the conflict and most were removed from the No5's that had them and replaced with the MkI milled rear sight that you usually see on No5 carbines. Here's a link to a few more pictures of the carbine: http://imgur.com/a/fVpIf
Until I acquired this carbine, I was not even aware of this feature's existence, and I thought some of you would enjoy learning about it also.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

These are a very fun carbine to clear that obnoxious black rifle guy next to you. I shot mine once in an indoor 25 yd range. The local SWAT team was shooting at the other end of the line. The packed up and left.

I have not shot mine much, and even then was with milder hand loads, so I need to find some good ammo soon.

I think I may bring it to the range with my M44 when I test it out.Longcolt44 wrote:These are a very fun carbine to clear that obnoxious black rifle guy next to you. I shot mine once in an indoor 25 yd range. The local SWAT team was shooting at the other end of the line. The packed up and left.

How is the recoil on the carbines as compared to my M44s?
