1944 Tula Ex-Sniper. $139 Should I buy?

Post by MosinFanatic92 »

Local gun store has Tula 1944 Ex-Sniper in pretty good shape. Is it worth the $139..? If so, what do you think the value would be in todays market?

These one time sniper rifles tend to bring a few dollars more when the seller realizes what it is. $139 would be were it should be if it's your basic 91/30 refurb.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Tula ex-sniper! I would grab it. I have only come across one 1944 Izhevsk ex-sniper and I bought it. Haven't stumbled on to another one sense.

I would buy, if I were on the lookout for one. $139 is the lowest price around my area for run of the mill Mosins.
I just bought a '38 Tula red letter for that price the other day, and if there would have been an an ex sniper there I would have bought it also.

I'd buy it. As far as a value, it'd probably sell between $150-190 on gunbroker right now.

Okay, don't cut my head off but being new I need to know what to look for on a x sniper rifle.
Standard 91/30's her now cost $170 +... At $139 I'd take a plain Jane Mossin and maybe more.

Head on over to Classicfirearms.com then. They have grade excellent M91/30s for the everyday low price of $139.99 Grade Bs are $99.99 and only cosmetic issues on them, I have 4 in the pipeline right now.

I was gonna say, if you have to ask, are you REALLY a fanatic? Oh I did say it. You already stepped onto the slippery slope, go get it and enjoy the ride. Resistance is futile.

They probably don't know what they have. To me $139 is a very good price for a Tula ex Sniper. RUN back to the store and gobble it up immediately.

They are the same as any other refurbished 91/30 with the addition of some spots on the receiver were the holes were welded shut, and maybe an extra number on the left side of the barrel shank, C H stamp for Tula, but otherwise they are just ordinary 91/30's

JoeR hit it on the head...you could have said "I found a Mosin that someone turned in to a canoe paddle, then refurbed back to the point where it can fire single feed shots, should I buy it?" and we would say, "YES!!"

WW2 Tula PU rifles are much scarcer than Izhevsk PU rifles. Of the Tula made PU rifles, 1942 is by far the scarcest, followed by 1944 and then 1943. A nice 1944 PU rifle with a good bore, even in "ex"-sniper configuration, is definitely a desirable item with historical significance due to it's original use and configuration as one of the top combat snipers of WW2. Many folks consider "ex"-snipers to be not much more valuable or interesting than regular 91/30's, but to many collectors they do have a special appeal.

They are a valid piece of Mosin sniper history, just like the uncommon and collectable Tula "Accuracy Rifles" of the 1930's and 1940's that were "cn", "CH", or "Hn" proofed but were never drilled and tapped for a scope mount base.

For $139 you did well, very well. Now you just need to start trying out different types of ammo in it to see which it likes best and see what kind of accuracy you and the rifle are capable of.

It sounds like you found a good fair price on a nice rifle. You should be able to learn the picture posting procedure with a little practice. If you resize your pictures 640x480 works really well.

But, you add shipping on top of that & I personally put a premium on a gun I can examine with my own hands before I buy. Get the 44 ex from your LGS.
