Steyr M95

Found this one last week and was shocked at how well it shoots for being a short carbine. Really pleased with its performance and design.
All matching numbers, even the stock.

I like the way these shoot. What is it? A steyr or buda?

Says only Steyr M95 on the receiver, all sorts of small markings on the barrel behind the rear sights plus the long S that means something about the cal.
This one uses the 8x54r or 56r ammo.

I still want one of these. Lee makes a bullet mold for the 8x56r, and as expensive as ammo is for these they seem like a natural for some slightly lighter loaded cast lead bullets. Nice carbine you found there.

Yes the S means it was upgraded to the 8x56 ammo from the old 8x50. The ammo is around in surplus or commercial.
Steyr is Austrian and sometimes has the Austrian acceptance stamp with the original date of manufacture and sometimes not. Has the high front sight which is more common on the Budapest rifles so probly used as a police issue later in its life.

Yes they are good little shooters. Privy makes ammo for them but I haven't seen any around lately always sold out .
I would like to pick up one or two more of them while they are still cheep. Grab some extractors when they come available again it is always good to gave a couple spares.

I bought a box of privy last weekend at a gun show. $25 f0r 20 rounds. A bit steep. But it was there, no shipping, and I am not a patient man. Funny thing is, it's too cold to go to the range. So I have to wait anyway. But it's just a good feeling to know it's there.

i bought one about 2 months ago, a like new referb. it has fast become one of my favored rifles to shoot and look at. about the size of a M1 carbine shooting a 8MM- 56 round WOW what not to like. these rifles are our little secret. i only paid 180 bucks for the one i have and it came with 80 rounds of ammo.

Neat to have someone who you offer to let shoot it try to "open" the bolt

One thing is you MUST have the clip when you shoot these, firing them single fire will break the extractor (so I am told).

I have collected a number of boxes of the original ammo and notice that there are 2 styles of clips. One is solid and another has the openings in the sides. Anyone know about the clips?

The ones that came with my Nazi ammo had the open sides, have not seen the solid clips. Interesting, I will have to do some googling.

Hmmm..... I am going to need to check and see if they are Austrian stamped ammo with the solid clips, I know I have some Nazi ammo

Gotta love these little rifles! Not for the faint of heart. The military ammo packs a good wallop. I have several of these, and two or three that were sportered and rebarreled to 8x57. They are also nice little rifles.

The unmolested ones are well made. The sportered ones are nice too, with a Mauser barrel and sights.

I snapped a fee pictures oh the clips I have. Both styles at Nazi marked. I do have a couple of clips without ammo that have the Austrian Mark.

Does Judy and her Mosins have a M95 Steyer. I think she would like them. I would recommend that if you see one and the price is right to grab it while they are still affordable. I know ammo is pricey but if you think of it so is 30-30, 30-06, 223, 308, it is a fun gun to shoot but it is not a plinker. I would like to get at least two more myself.

I have 3 different types of clips. Two are like BD showed and this is an Austrian marked one .

Now you need to find yourself a original M95 long rifle with your carbine !
