My introduction to Mosin Nagants and this web site was what I think was a lucking find for a new kid. 3 weeks ago I pulled this rifle out of a crate at a very small local gun store in the warehouse district of Henderson Nevada. It is a 1933 M91/30 Izhevsk Hex MO 1933/50 refurb in excellent condition. I cleaned it up, found a can of ball ammo and shot 3 MOA the first time I shot it. I'm sure it would do better if I could actually see my target.
Great photographers here. I really enjoy being able to see the real deal. Here's a couple photos of mine.
I was so impressed with the way it shoots I went ahead and ordered a M44. It arrives today.
Nice setup!

Great looking rifles! As a new member of this group, this is very encouraging to keep looking and visiting pawn shops, yard sales, retailers, etc. for that lucky find. Goin to Gander Mountain this week to get that '34 Tula and who knows what else I might find. My favorite of 2013 is a 1941 M39 VKT-pics when time allows.
Re: What's Your Best Purchase Of 2013?
well it was not a mosin even though i did get a nice molot 1944 tula PU sniper. but my best deal is i traded installing a fuel pump in a ford expidition [ 200 bucks ] and 250 cash for a beautiful 1943 Rimington 1903A3 springfield with 160 rounds of ammo. these things are going for about 700=800 retail these days. so ammo and rifle for 450 is a steal. it and my M-39 are my best shooters .
Re: What's Your Best Purchase Of 2013?
Mine would have to be the M24 "Lotta Rifle" I picked up from a co worker. He bought it for $120, and I traded him a 1942 Izhevsk M91/30, 300 rounds of surplus ammo and $50 for it!
It shoots great, and has very little bluing left, as well as someone's initials in the butt stock! Gorgeous piece of history.

Anyone picked up anything in the last couple of weeks that they would like to add to the list? There have been some incredible rifles posted here. Congrats to everyone and best of luck adding to the collection in 2014.

My best purchase each and every year of being around is the friendships I make online and at gun shows! It is priceless and I do appreciate each and every time I make a new friend or can help someone out. Bill

Welcome to the board, nice rifle

Re: What's Your Best Purchase Of 2013?
Thank you, I'm kinda cheating and replacing the bottom mag plate with an unmarked one since the numbers don't match the rest of the gun but it can be easily reversed. I might cheat and reproduce the serial number on the new plate and create matching number gun. Ethics are sketchy on that...still unsure but it would be disclosed to anyone who asked.

Re: What's Your Best Purchase Of 2013?
Nice rifle Tickmagnet. Please don't make that mistake. Your floorplate is forced matched by the refurb arsenal, as is expected and proper for a refurb. The bolt is also judging by the metal removed from grinding in that area. I can't see much on my phone but I bet the buttplate is forced matched as well. All 100% acceptable and normal for a refurb. Once you go down the road of 'humping' parts...self-stamping etc....then you are treading down the wrong path. Your rifle is fine as it is, IMO

Re: What's Your Best Purchase Of 2013?
I can see it fine tick, and I can tell you that you have a matching rifle already. There is no ethical question about changing or restamping, it is quite easy- it is cheating. The line out on the magazine plate and testimony was done by the arsenal and is proper. No real collector would fall for it, and believe me you cannot make the proper number stamp. Congrats on a nice 1931 Tula, now be the good caretaker that it deserves. Welcome to the forum.

Re: What's Your Best Purchase Of 2013?
All of my guns were purchased in 2013 so this one is a little tough for me... I really like my new AK but I think my Garand tops the list. '43 built Springfield.

Sorry, my best Mosin is a very close second but the best wasn't a Mosin....
Springfield Armory US Model 1884 built in 1887. Really nice shape. Price invested? $37.00 (for an ejector). The gun was a gift.
