Red Letter Mosin - Triangle 23 Double Date
Red Letter Mosin - Triangle 23 Double Date
Well...I walk into the pawn shop today with the intent of buying a G11. Fate seems to have thrown a cruel twist my way as today they got in a crate of beautiful Mosin 91/30s! The crate was filled with red letter Mosins and there were even 3 Hex rifles among them. The Hex rifles (costing 230) would've been as much as I was going to pay for the G11. However I opted instead for the slightly cheaper round receiver 91/30. I got a pretty unique one I think. I also got the matching bayonet, red letter as well! It has a PP series serial number...which I've never seen
Arsenal marks are gone all over, even scrubbed on the tang, from the vast majority of parts used on it I believe it's an Izhevsk rifle.
As usual I apologize for my crappy photos.
There's some numbers stamped here. I specifically remember a 7 that's upsidedown if you're looking from the receiver end. I'll get the specifics soon.
No markings on the tang at all.
Non red letter butt plate but serial matches. No other numbers besides it.
Izhevsk stamp on the trigger group
Matching floorplate
Matching bolt
Now I'm going to go clean this thing up before people notice my new toy

Pretty clean on the rifle itself. Need to get into the bore later (dark, strong rifling though!)
Numbers on the underside of the barrel are 43329
Rifle is stamped 1944/50

Re: Red Letter Mosin - Triangle 23 Double Date
Sorry, but the pics are a little rough.. Is there a MO on the receiver?
Re: Red Letter Mosin - Triangle 23 Double Date
Unfortunately I can never get good photos of my rifles or pistols with my cell phone. I wish I had a better camera.
Looked at the receiver,. it's an ИO

What kind of phone do you have? Not a I phone, and I bet it ain't a Samsung, but I digress. That is cool that you got in on a fresh crate and got to choose. It sounds like you did well if you got a double date red letter rifle. Man I would be asking someone for a decent camera or a better cell phone. I didn't think good pics were possible before I got this Samsung galaxy. This pic was taken in poor light without a flash just goofing around awhile ago.

Try pitting the cam in macro mode. It's usually in the focus section.

I got a Blackberry Bold, one of the newer ones but not quite the latest touch-screen models.
All I got is Auto, Face Detection, Portrait, Sports, Landscape, Party, Close-up, Snow, Beach, Night, Text. None of them worked for me so far

I'd like to say but I can't yet
If that is a /23\ I would be surprised, although I think I might have one. Most likely mis-stamped and it's easy to see a 3 when looking at a 5 and visa-versa especially with the way they stamped some of these /25\ rifles.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I see a very nice Hi Power and a P38
As for the tang, was it common Russian practice to scrub the markings off them? I thought for sure that I'd find the date/arsenal stamp but I was pretty surprised to see nothing there. I may never find out the origin of the receiver, only my assumption of it being a rebarrelled Izhevsk
I took a look at the receiver again...I still can't tell if it's a 23 or a 25. I'd have to get a magnifier to see if I can make it out a bit better. Need to see if there is a piece of the M possibly missing on that stampqz2026 wrote:I'd like to say but I can't yet
