1933 Finned Hex - lots of marks, tons of pics!

Post by cjsimoh »

Last Spring at a tiny gun show, accompanied by RMNF brother and gonzo Mosin hunter cj1964, I happened upon this rifle first thing though the door. It was on consignment as part of an estate sale. It's a M91/30 1933 hex Finn capture. The bluing is about 70-75%, counter bored and (based on the rounded splices) in a war time stock. The bolt and receiver numbers match. The hand guard end caps are brass with copper rivets. It is SA and 41 marked.

While I had it apart to clean it, I snapped some photos of some of the stamps and markings on it. Thought I would share them. Get ready for some Finn Cap porn...

You took three rifles apart to find that many stamps. Didn't you? Yeah. You did.
No words of wisdom come to mind at this time....

Very nice. For anyone who needs clarification on how counterbores can improve accuracy study the last picture. The sharp crisp rifling all the way to the edge where the counterbore ends. Even though the edge is blurry you can see it! Great pictures.8-)8-):P

Sweet finn. I just love the patina of the stocks and metal of the captured rifles. :Drool1: :Drool1: :Drool1: :vcool: :vcool: :vcool: :vcool:

You're very meticulous in your care and cleaning. It sure looks a lot better than when we first spotted it!! It's got a good home and fine photo work too. Bravo.

Thanks Chris! I remember not even being able to see that it was counter-bored.

That's some sweet Finn for sure

That rifle has more stampings than Carter's had pills. Love the double front sight too, pre war two piece stock, nicely stamped shank.... Heck, not much not to like about this rifle. Wait, yes there is. IT'S NOT MINE :soapbox:
