Houston, I have a problem

So a few months ago I got my first, and so far only 91/30. It's a 1943 Izhevsk, not rare and not worth much to anyone else. Except to me its my first nagant which makes its priceless. I'm guessing most reading this will know what my problem is.....I want another one,something different/slightly rare. I spend time looking on the net at various gun sites like most of you do and so figured if I wanted something rare my best bet is to start looking around the local area pawn shops/gun shows. I can't help but feel I'm turning into a Nagant stalker

Congrats, my first was a laminated 1943 Izhevsk as well! I quickly wanted a Tula to go with it, then a M44, T-53, Nagant revolver, T-33 Tokarev, gotta have something in Makarov (PA-63)... Now I'm looking at Yugo Mausers, PPS-43C...

Soon you will be judging every purchase that is non-gun by how many guns you could buy with that money. After that, you will not make non-gun purchases at all. Enjoy your first Mosin as much as the next ones. Just don't sell any like I did. Pain and anguish is the reward for that. (Yoda voice)

Welcome aboard. Buy a Finnish M39. They are IMHO the pinnacle of Mosins. Just as an aside, the rifles are generally refered to as Mosins, and the revolvers as Nagants.

First of all, welcome to the fam. After weeks and months of lurking, watching, reading and researching almost everything the good folks on this board have posted, what started off as a one time purchase has turned into 5 after a mere 18 months. Yea my first wasw a 1939 laminate Izhevsk...... then I found this site a few months ago now I have 7 mosins including a pu sniper a couple of ex drags and a finn capture.....

I'd love to get a pu sniper but I'm scared of getting stitched up. Think I'm gonna hunt down a carbine of some sort.

My first was a 43 Izhevsk, then I wanted a hex receiver and bought a 34 Tula, then came the m44, then......I forget the order but I think it was a Russian SKS.

Now you got the idea! When I go to the café for lunch I do a pawnshop stop on the way. I try to incorporate stops along the way to everywhere I go to check shops. In the old days of cheap gas I had certain days I would make runs to find out what is out there not always buying stuff the first time through to get better prices. I left an 1899 M91 Finn sit for over a month because it was rough and I knew if it sat there for awhile I would get a better price. I walked out the shop with a great $100 gun. One owner saved a 28/30 for me because he knew I would take it and I gladly gave him the $125 price he asked for it. Be ingenious and find odd places to find Mosins of value for prices we all dream of paying. My buddy has been grabbing great milsurp rifles from yard sales for years now! Estate sales have worked for me. Try and find a new place to buy them and keep it to yourself and reap your benifits quietly till somebody catches on. Do you really think all of us lets on where and how much we really pay for things? I just picked up a nice Siamese Mauser for under $200. Guess where and how much I really paid for it! Patience and effort result in nice finds and the world doesn't have to know about them either. Bill
