Today I finally got a chance to get out and shoot my Sako 1942 M39 rifle. My dad and I had set up a target at ~80-90 yards down in the woods, and fired from a bench rest behind the house. I was super-pleased to get 3-shot 1" groups throughout the afternoon. It did shoot about 10-12" high, but when I used a 6'o'clock hold on the bottom of the visible target, it was pretty much right on the money. To put it in perspective, if it were a groundhog in the field, or a deer in the woods, a 6:00 hold below the desired hit area would definitely do the trick.
I also picked up a leather sling and cleaning kit for this rifle from LTC, and am pretty happy with that as well.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

Woo hoo, that is nice looking. I think a 6 o'clock hold is correct for these anyhow, and it sounds like you have a real performer there. Very nice indeed.
W O W !!!! Man that is one beautiful rifle. I find a 6' hold works fine out to 100.00. These rifles are VERY accurate. 3 in a 1" group with iron sights is damn fine in my book.

That is exactly what I said when I saw the Model 39 in this thread.

That is one fine looking rifle and a bonus it's a good shooter. I have a tackdriver that is a 1942 "rush job" with a shellac finish that looks like leprosy. The metal is rough enough that you could use the sides of the barrel as a file.
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!
