Just got back from Gander Mountain with my first Mosin...

I called 'em before I went over to see what they had in stock, the counter guy said, "Looks to be 12-15 of 'em out there..."

So, off I went...

The second one I picked up, I bought... it's a 'Hex'... (is that the correct term here?) 1932 date stamp... from Isveck... Ishvex...Izhvex... heck... it's not a "Tula"...(how do ya pronounce "Izhevsk"... just like it sounds?)

So now it's all apart on my desk... gettin' the cosmo out of it...fun stuff...

By the by... anyone here (besides me) own a Russian motorcycle? I've got an '07 Ural GearUp Arctic to go along with my new noisemaker...

Welcome to the board, the Izhevsk Mosin 91/30 used the hex receiver until 1935, in 1936 they went to the round receiver, same receiver, different outer style.

It has no sights or mounting holes for them either. I will cock and fire but I've never actually fired it. I have a few other Mosin rifle and this one is much better finished and the metal to wood fit is nicer as well.
Any info or comments or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike.

Welcome to the board Mike, looks like another one of Remingtons cadet rifles made up from parts used in the Russian contract, or one of the unfinished rifles sold as a cadet. A lot of these have been coming out of the woodwork of late. Very nice.

Ok,..I'l post here,..I really enjoy shooting Mosins. I see so many diffrent ones here. I have five I will take as many pictures allowed so you guys can help me out with them. At the range another person shooting told me not to shoot three of them as they were ...not common,...Then he wanted to buy them from me. But No was my answer. My oldest brother gave them to me. He's no help just laughts and says look hem up. It's actually more fun then shopping. But I don't want to trade or ruin a rifle that should be in a safe or on a wall. Thank you, Judi

Just another AK user that got the Mosin Nagant bug.

In March I picked up a 1943 Izhevsk with barrel/butt plate match, bolt and magazine floor plate mismatched. Pretty accurate. Also, it does not have any import mark. It was a private sale at a gun show.

Last week I picked up a 1939 Tula at Cabel's. It had barrel, butt plate, magazine floor plate and bayonet with the same Alpha prefix stamped numbers and a bolt with the same numbers without the prefix. It was set up as a sniper and had electro numbers on the scope mount with a 2009 PU scope.

(I know the PU was not around until 1942, but my historical poetic license lets me believe it replaced the PE/PEM at refurb.)

Interesting thing is the Serial Numbed has a alpha prefix of CN, and there is no СП or СР by the Tula Star.

At any rate, it is configured as a sniper and after I remove the cosmo I will give it the test....shooting it.

Welcome to the board, we call that a fake PU sniper, they are pretty common, probably one of Century's builds, that '43 sounds interesting , this is an issued rifle I take it, not one of the pretty red shellac refurb rifles like that PU is built on? Could be an early 90's Balkan rifle that they forgot the import mark on ( markings very tiny and up by muzzle) or a Korean era bringhome, too new for Spain.

Did more searching about the "non import" 1943 Izhevsk and found a bigger than life import mark on receiver. I thought it was a referb mark because it had the same number with a different prefix.

Still learning.

Oh yea, Century was putting the serial numbers on the receivers back in the early 90's like that. Still better than todays huge billboard import marks.

Hello and thanks for the informative forum. I have just started to venture into the Mosins. I've had a M44 for a few months and just ordered a crate of 20 91/30s today from Classic. The idea of purchasing an "untouched" crate of milsurps since rebuild was too much to take any longer. Will post when crate arrives and I have time to look through them.
