Type 53 from 1953

Post by yiping »

Got my first Chinese type 53 carbine from 1953 date. After hours of cleaning off all the axle grease & dirt here she is :D

Bore is surprisingly good considering what is on the outside of barrel. Barrel does has small pitting on outside at three places.

There is a number 52 on the trigger guard, tang and butt plate. Also a star on stock. Bolt head has a small R on it. Could all these be Russian parts?

I think its a early production? Series number is A9740试, 1953.9. (September 1953 ?) bolt and floor plate series does not march.

Thanks :)

That actually looks in really good shape for a T53. My 1956 wasn't anywhere near as nice... And you have a cleaning rod! Did the rod come with it? They usually don't.

You are correct about the year and month. I'm not up on the production times and numbers on these. That one looks better than most of the ones I've seen. I have seen some where they used Russian parts so it is very possible.

Wow! What a great score. This rifle looks really nice for on;y 4 months into production. Where did you get it?
By the way, if you want to take some of the rust off, I highly recommend this product. Best $6 I've ever spent:

I got her from a LGS at Dallas. They give me a discount because of the crack on stock. Thanks for the link :D

Thanks for the info. Early production must be very small ? Since my series is only at 9740 around September.

Have fun with her. I have a 53 that was made in March 1955. Happens to be my birth date too...thought it would be pretty cool to have a gun made the same time I was. I really enjoy shooting it.

That stuff works great.
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

Loks like a Chu wood stock from the pics, correct for the rifle, the star stamp is very common in the communist world. Nice Type 53 :)
