found this while cleaning for 1st time brand new Yugo 7.62 x 39...never fired by my...it appears to be wear / corrosion / or missing plating on bolt carrier piston in two spots...
Is this normal? or do I have a problem? (my first AK)

What rifle is it exactly and where did you get it from? Ak's can be a bit rough if they were assembled from parts kits. Depending on who put it together. Even the brand new saiga's from russia can have issues sometimes. Have you fired it yet?

Stainless steel piston, stainless is corrosion resistant, not corrosion proof. Looks fine to me.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Ak's are tough and pretty resistant of small problems. I don't think it will effect the rifles function. As jyd said stainless is more corrosion resistant but it can still rust and corrode.
