new mosin owner

Post by mitch5690 »

Recently bought two mosins from a friend who just adopted a kid and wanted them out of his house. 40 bucks and a few old video games later and some research, the one is a 1904 Izhevsk with the older stock with screwed in sling clips? and the second is a 1954 Romanian m44 with instructie on the stock but i've been having trouble finding information on this one. It has the print on the stock and the proper markings but it doesnt have the red painted band, anyone with some info? thanks guys

Without pictures it is hard to say, but most likely a M1891 and the instructie sounds good too. Sounds like you got a couple of serious rifles, hopefully nobody has sanded, stripped, painted, reblued, hacked or hammered on, or mounted some rediculous scope on it. In other words, you got some real history to get excited about as long as they have not been ruined! Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the board  For that price you hit a home run! Post up some good pics including all markings and we can try and see what's up.

The Romanian rifle is just what it sounds like, a rifle used for instruction, a training rifle. They tended to use well worn rifles for this so be sure you check the headspace before firing it, and check it carefully for any other issue's.

Instructie carbines arent common at all, and some didn't have a red stripe of the instructie mark was painted on not stamped. Hope it wasnt refinished. Welcome!

Welcome to the forum. What a great introduction to the colleting. Both killer rifles as long as complete. AS stated some of the instructies didn't get the red stripe. :vcool: :vcool:

Welcome to the board! Sounds like you might have scored big time, I sure hope so.
I will echo all the others in "we need pics". Pretty much standard operation here.

Welcome to the forum!!! Sounds like a 1904 M91 or it could even be a rarer Dragoon. The Romanian M44 Instructie sounds like a cool one too. More info on these can be found here.
