About 50 for us, they have one over in the communist state, Herters is a manufacturer of sporting goods, I have no idea who makes the ammunition for them.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Something is positively off, from the arsenal it should be flush or at least very close.

Agreed. It is as if the last thing they did when they built them or rebuilt them was gring the cocking piece and strike the line in the end of the cocking piece/firing pin making everything flush.

One more thing, try not to overthink it to the point of frustration. It's just a mechanical device. Pieces can be fixed, or replaced. :P

Does anyone have a firing pin on hand to measure so he can compare? I was going to do it last night but got busy watching a movie.(the cloud atlas).

I may have been too quick to rule out the usual cause for my stuff not working... my self...
I disassembled and reassembled the bolt, trying to get the back of the firing pin to line up with the knob. It did just that. Firing pin depth looks good as well.
The bolt has a much snappier feel to it and is definitely hitting harder.
FYI, my firing pin was 7 and 1/8 inches long.

This is the correct position for the bolt to be in when checking right?

Sounds like you got it. As to the ammo....I'd shoot it. But I've never been quite right!

Did you reset that firing pin back to spec? Didn't notice if you did or didn't. But DO before you shoot it.

I checked the firing pin, it's within spec. I wish I disassembled the bolt whilst I was out there....

You have the bolt correct, did you figure out exactly were you went wrong? Yes, shoot the rounds.

Looks like it is in the right position to measure the firing pin protrusion, and it can't hurt to go ahead and fire the rounds. I think this is gonna work out ok.
