Type 14 Nambu Nagoya

Post by etprescottazusa91 »

IMG_0030.JPG
To start off the military handgun thread I'm placing my favorite, one I'm happy to be able to continue to own in these tough times, even my wife appreciates having this example around. Some may have seen this before, though what we are looking at is a Type 14 Nambu, Nagoya production March of 1938 or 13.3. This is a fine example of Japanese pre war quality that matches any commercial firearm I have owned.
Placed on consignment in a Prescott gun shop, small towns with a VA hospital allow for good finds sometimes, it is unfortunate that this example is no longer with the family that owned it, though I appreciate the sacrifice of the man who brought it home, It's in good hands.
All matching, the kit retains a spare mag and the cleaning rod, (nice quality, looks chrome) the magazine is matching though the original spare mag to the kit, the primary mag apparently lost to time.

One of few museum quality examples that I have seen, I really like this handgun and I have and am now a Nambu enthusiast though it may be years before I own another, if ever. Yes, I have fired it and it does work. :Jflag:

That's nice. I was starting to get into the Japanese WWII stuff when my funds ran out. One of the WWII areas I have nothing in.

It sure is a beauty! 8-) 8-)

What is that other hand gun they had? A big ugly thing?

Very nice piece of history, ET. Congrats.

We are all temporary custodians of the history we hang on our walls. I bet the former custodian would like to know that the next owner cherished the gun, an was proud enough of it to preserve it share it with his friends and then pass it into the future the way he found it.

I belive they had the type 26 revolver, an the type 94 semi auto. The type 94 is downright ugly IMO.

Yes.
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

The type 94 would fire if pushing the side, one reason I have passed over the years on buying the few I have seen, wall hangers every one of them, though passing on one I saw was probably a mistake as these go up in value also. One thing about the type 94 it was a substitute standard, these were never actually issued but were purchased by soldiers that could afford them and would also be permitted to carry a sidearm. Lots of pilots had them as the Japanese did not automatically issue a side arm to a pilot, many state security, Kempei Tai and party members owned Type 94's.

I believe it was this type of Nambu and then also the German's Luger that inspired William Ruger to design the Ruger Standard model pistol. I can see the similarities. Thanks for sharing. It really is a beauty.

I had this one out of the safe this weekend for a quick inspection. Being that this was the first military handgun posted on this great forum I'm bumping this up for any newer members who have not scrolled back to the first threads.

SA1911a1 thanks for your comment when originally posted, that one and a couple other comments were appreciated by the old Nambu.
