Update on my Original Remington

Well y'all she lives! My original Remington is ready to shoot once again. The nipples turned out to be usable and no new parts where needed to get it to index properly. My dad figured out that the spring tension screw was stuck, and after freeing it and adjustment she runs like a Swiss watch. I want to thank everyone for you advice. I'm going to take her out tomorrow and fill er' up with 777 and she what she can do!


That's a joke. Light loads of real black powder only for the ol' girl. I'm not that stupid.

Shoot sixty rounds through my Pietta Remington today. What A hoot! I was easily shooting palm sized groups. The problem is now I want a Colt...

The brass frame Colt Pietta makes is less expensive than the Remington, or you could go for the 1860 Colt Army model, spend a little more, the '60 has a larger grip, and is a .44 also, the Navy should be a .36, but Pietta made it as a .44.

Being as I have a Remington New Model Army Copy, I want a Colt 1860 Army so I have both of the main Revolvers of the Civil war.

Colts Army and Navy revolvers by Uberti


Several years ago I bought a Pietta '60 Army of GB new in the box, still in the oil wrap even, and I have no idea were it is. I know it arrived, I know it's still in the wrap, but I hid it so well even I can't find it, and show you a pic, but it's similar to the Uberti. The Uberti is the top of the Italian line of Colt revolvers, highest levels of fit and finish, even Colt uses their parts. I have shot a lot of rounds out of that Army, for some reason I can shoot this revolver very accurately from past 60 yards, it just fits my hand very naturally.

Army model is the top one, thr third most popular sidearm would be the 1858 Starr, mostly the single action version, but some DA's like this one as well

On the Southern side you had a motley collection of Colt copy's, captured northern pistols, odds and ends and the one most associated with Confederate officers, at least the few that could afford it was the French made LeMat . Nine .44 shots with a 20 gauge shotgun barrel in the middle that functions as the cylinder pin.
