Remington R1

Post by Rongo »

Got this a few weeks ago... A Remington R1 1911 pistol. After much deliberation I chose this over the Taurus, Kimber, Springfield, S&W & RIA. Something about it appealed to me. Took it to the range & tried it out & was most dissatisfied with the trigger. Very gritty & vague. Performed well with factory ammo but did not like some of Entropy's reloads... though the reloads performed well in Skipper's Hi-Point.

Ordered a Videki trigger from Cylinder & Slide... Long trigger with adjustable overtravel. What a difference!!! 8) Much better. Also did a complete strip & clean on it & I think we are on our way with a good pistol. Everything feels much smoother after a full strip vs. a basic field strip from before. I know, I know... Should have stripped it from the get go. More updates on the next range trip.

I also ordered 2 8 round Chip McCormick mags for it as well.

Here's some pics...

Yeah me too. I have never found a worthy replacement for a 1911, of course I don't really try to replace it. My 45 will always be my go to weapon.

Does it come with the same glossy Italian-made magazines that RIA uses? They work OK for a while, but eventually the feed lips bend out of shape. One of mine got so bad it would eject the top round when slammed home in the gun.

I haven't used the RIA mags... These seem to work good so far.

Nice pistola ;) Any of the factory 45's need work anymore. I had all kinds of work done to my Kimber to get it what I called carryable.............. Its a smooth shooting pistol that outshoots me. Congrats dude!!!

The reviews on the R1 stated that it started to break in after 600 rounds. I'll be bring it to the range to try & get a few more hundred through it to see if it smooths out. That & to try that trigger. 8-) 8-)

My RIA came with a Novak 8 rounder. Works flawlessly, as does the Chip McCormick 8 rounder. :)
