First Mosin

Post by Red Green »

I just bought mt first Mosin Nagant 91/30. Cabelas had the for $119.00 this past week so I got there early this past Thursday and looked a few over. This was the best of the 3 they let me look at. It's a 1938 Izhevsk with all matching numbers, including the bayonet. I know the stock is not the original, but the rest of the gun is. The barrel is clean and bright and the rifling look great. It did come with the cleaning kit, but no pouches or sling, so that is on the list. Here are a few pics and if you were to give this a grade, what you it be?

Thanks all. Where is the best place to get the ammo pouches, sling, and stripper clips? I have the cleaning kit an oil can.

Click on the Liberty Tree banner at the top of any forum page, they have all of that stuff.

Another quick question. I know how to check the firing pin spacing with the tool, but how critical is it to check the head space? Is the No Go gauge the best way to check? I've heard that as long as the original bolt is with the gun the chances of having a problem with head space is very small.

That is odd that yours didn't come with the pouches and a sling, the Cabela's PW Arms imports are supposed to. Nice first Mosin anyway, I doubt it will be your last.

Congratulations! Nice M1891/30 refurb. Welcome to the forum! I picked up an ex-sniper at cabelas in Kearney, NE. last week and it didn't come with the tool pouch, ammo pouches or sling either. I asked about it and they said that was how they are being sent out to them now.

Seems somebody along the supply chain line is getting a little greedy and selling the beloved accessories for some extra....
