Ok, so I found another local sale... I thought it was a russian m44 until I saw what looks like chiense markings... 1956 and the 26 stamp.
Guy is asking $250 .... please tell me what i'm looking at here and a fair price. My father is visiting me from Australia and he fell in love with my m38 that we shot yesterday. I'm trying to get him to buy one.... and leave it with me while he is in Australia. ;)
These are available locally to me for $129 retail. From what I can see of this example $250 is pretty high for a typical T53 within the Continental U.S.... I would pass.

If its just the Type 53 and no extras like ammo, I would pass. These are available for about $150. At that price, you are in the price range of a nice Model 44.

so what would a fair price be to offer him? $150? I'm not(i mean my dad is not) desperate and will definitely pass if he doesn't want to come down in price.
I can't find any mosin anything where i live. Its a but steep but....you have to figure shipping and transfer unless you have a c&r so...175-200 if i ordered one. Non matching.
You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.

Ask him if the barrel shank, bolt, floor plate, and butt plate all have the same number. I watch all the online auctions, and every matched T53 goes in the range he's asking, even if the stock is a little rough. I've seen ones with numbers and a nice stock go through the roof. The eastern blocs are similar too. You can get a run of the mill, non matching Polish pretty reasonably. The "unissued", numbers rifles are all about $500. There's one on GB right now approaching $500 again.
He never responded to me when I asked him about the serial numbers. He only told me that "most of the Mosin's were made in china" ... I'm passing on dealing with this guy. Maybe he is mad that I told him he only had a $130-$150 rifle. Ah well...
Be careful of some of these experts. Sometimes it is better to walk away.

I'm with desdem. $250 seems way out of line unless there is something exceptional about this T53 we don't know about. I oredered several from SOG and paid $94 per rifle (it was like $104.07 per rifle after ahipping). They are available other places for $119 or $129. $250 just seems like a ripoff to me

No worries. I'm ceased communications with that guy. He didn't know what he had to begin with and thought all Mosin's were product of Chinese production.
