In hindsight maybe the fact that my uncle needed beer and smokes before noon was an early warning sign that he didn't live a healthy lifestyle. He died in his fifties (everyone on my Dad's side died before 60 I think. They were all raging alcoholics, smoked like chimneys, and wouldn't eat anything that was not fried in bacon grease first. My dr told me my Dad's side of the family is to blame for my ridiculously high cholesterol. I don't think they were checking for it back then.

They were a pickled walking grease solid, common enough back then before we were told that eating like a man was bad for you. The drinking, and smoking we always knew about because Mom's everywhere would say so even before the Doc's figured it out.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I used to work with a lady who cooked everything in bacon grease. We used to tease her that there was product like "I can't believe it's not butter" but it was a bacon grease substitute called "facon grease"

What's wrong with cooking with bacon grease? Sounds like a great idea

There is a substitute for Bacon grease that's actually quite tasty and can be flavored as you please (unlike Bacon grease, which always reeks of bacon).
This wonder product is called lard.

What's wrong with the smell of bacon grease, I love bacon

In the proper context there is nothing wrong with it.
Bacon with pancakes. Bacon with eggs. Bacon on cheeseburgers. Bacon bits on maccaroni and cheese. BLT.
But it wrecks a pie crust. And lard makes a hell of a lot better pie crust than Crisco.
There are other examples.
EDIT: My dad was an Army mechanic during the Korean war, and he swore that he believed the diesels in the deuce and a half would run on Bacon grease if you strained it clean.

Wow does that bring back memories! My daughter would eat anything but my son was another story. It was so bad some places we went I would just order an appetizer and eat the stuff he would turn down. Got really bad when he started eating my appetizer too. Lost a bit of weight back then as I remember. Ah the memories of raising kids! Thanks for the jog of memory! Bill
