1st Mosin, 3rd gun.
Re: 1st Mosin, 3rd gun.
You married guys have to master this method for getting rifles into and out of the house.
First you carry empty rifle boxes out to the car through the kitchen when going to a rifle show like they had something in them. This may entail loading the car the night before because she has to see them go out the door. If she asks you say well I have some candidates for trading.
Next when you come home with anything new she has to see the now heavy rifle box come back in the door. If she asks how did you do you look glum and say not too good. This is only good if you have your own money source which she can not normally see. Now if she does you bought a bayonet or two for trade fodder. She has to also see this big backpack you carry in with nothing in it to explain where the bayonets were upon coming home. So every bit of ammo you buy has to go in there too.
You need a couple of safes to move things around in and they have to be where you only have can get into them. Periodically you overload one and leave the door open so she sees that so she thinks all of them are full. You have to buy at least one safe ahead to make sure you have space to put the new purchases. When she catches on you plead insanity or get a divorce. This has worked for me so it is battle tested! Did I mention I am single now by the way? This is one of the major reasons I no longer have a C&R license too because she can ask for and get the logbook when she says that is enough. Now she knows the reason you are always broke and can take half of your collections values in straight cash.
As I said this method works and is battle tested! Bill

Crafty idea, all I do is carry the new rifle into the house and set it on the table, depending on how busy/lazy I am it might still be there two weeks later
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I may be married and have 3 kids, but my house looks like a single guy lives there (always messy and almost no pictures on the wall)

Had a chance this afternoon to take a couple of more pics for you all. Going to order up the Okie headspace gauge tonight.

Re: 1st Mosin, 3rd gun.
A very nice pre-war Izhevsk M91/30. I can't tell if it is a pre-war stock from the photos. The bore, what I can see, looks good and is not counter-bored. Congratulations! You will find the Okie gauges easy to use. Directions should be included. As you collect a few more of these, the Okie gauges will come in handy. The gauges themselves are very small, so make a place in your tool kit for them, so you don't lose them.
Re: 1st Mosin, 3rd gun.
Thanks for the tip on checking the firing pin. I didn't get the tool with the gun so checked it with a dial calipier and it was right at .095+. I looked up how to adjust it and have it now adjusted to .085. Should be good to go now as long as the head space checks out (Crossing fingers).qz2026 wrote:mmmm, they're all so pretty Another fine example of mosin porn
Oh yeah, two things to do. Check the headspace, as recommended. But, also use your handy mosin tool to be sure the firing pin is in spec. Don't want to rupture a primer...
I didn't buy this to be a wall hanger, I really do want to shoot it. At some point I'd like to add a scout scope to it for shooting but not alter the gun in anyway so I can remove it to keep it's historic value.
