New England Westinghouse with M91RV recycled stock

Post by neal45 »

I got this one a few years ago when I thought I was buying a Mosin with a bullet hole through the stock. After posting in another forum, the consensus was the Finns had recycled a M91RV stock into a M91 stock. Note the Finn splice to take care of the front of the stock and the patches in the rear to cover the RV sling swivel indentations.

For another example, please see NL Mosin's thread here: http://www.russian-mosin-nagant-forum.c ... 45#p360245

Recycling at it's best. And stock repairs at it's best! Finnish rifle awesomeness at it's best.

:beek: now I've seen everything! Can't say that really... I've said it so many times before that I shouldn't even think about it anymore. Just another reason why the Mosins are top collectable Milsurps. Just never know what's going to show up next. It's still hard for me to get my hands around the history in these rifles. Very cool Neal.

I was revisiting this post to see if anyone had posted pics of their RV stocks and I noticed something about mine that I hadnt noticed before. Neals recycled stock is an M91RV stock rear section finger joined to the front half of a standard M91 stock....Mine however is an M91RV rear section finger joined to the front half of a standard 91/30 stock! How often has that been seen? See Pics below. I apologize Neal if I hijacked your thread but I wanted the pics of your stock and mine on the same thread for comparison.

I have two of those in my collection and I have hit 3 in Kevin Carneys collection so far. One is at Simpsons LTD and I don't remember seeing it sell yet. I hit one earlier in the Finns being cataloged yet to be sold and I think we have one in the group that sold awhile back at a show, believe it had a Finnish New England Westinghouse living in it. I have been surprised how many people fail to recognize the repair as marking the stock as a former RV stock. Bill
