First in a series, this is what an unmessed with sniper looks like.

:big shock:
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

In awe of such a specimen. Many of these have been revived, refurbished, or reproduced. Holding an original in its native state puts one directly in descendent of those who shouldered this fine firearm with malice from and toward both sides of the conflict. I am envious of your position, Hlavinka. Shoulder that one with pride.

Most of all, I would like to know who "E L" is and when and where he carved his initials into the buttstock.

I checked the Russian Alphabet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_alphabet), and in printing or block writing there is no letter in that alphabet shaped like an "L". BUT if you turn it upside down you get a backwards "E" (3), and an upside down capital "L", and there letters in block writing in the Russian alphabet shaped like a "3" and an upside down "L". They are the equivalent of "G" and "Z" in pronunciation in the the English language. Then I checked some lists of WWII era Russian snipers with the last name starting with "Z" and first or middle that starts with "G". The only one I came up with was some guy, I'm sure you've never heard of before........Vasily Grigoryevich Zaytsev  . Or maybe you have heard of him. Anyway, not saying it was his rifle or anything. There were thousands of Russian Snipers, but maybe, just maaaaybeeee............

Thanks for all of the compliments guys.
I have a few more to photograph and share. I was lucky to acquire these, but they became available because of terrible circumstances.
