Re: Back to buying...I can't help myself...

I picked the rifle up today. A Remington '03. As presented by the seller it looked terrible, surface rust, a bore that was full of crud. I told him I couldn't go $500.00 in the condition it was in. We settled of $420. When I got home I stripped it down completely and I don't think that it had been c...

Re: Friday the 13th

Back at you, Jim. I intend to go out this morning and break a mirror, standing under a ladder, while spilling salt all about. Then I am going to buy a lottery ticket! Buying the lottery ticket is most likely to cost me. ;) I am getting ready to drive 50 miles to meet a man about buying a gun. He bes...

Back to buying...I can't help myself...

A couple of weeks ago, I picked a nice '54 International Harvester Garand. Today, while out and about, I ran into a guy with a '03 Remington for sale. All he had was bad photos on his cell phone, but his description made it sound worth a further look. He was calling it an 02 A3, but it is an 03 whic...

Re: The Mosin You Wish You Still Had

I am not so attached to anything that I own that it doesn't have a price. I have sold about 20 rifles over the past year and I don't miss any of them.

I have come to the conclusion, in my old age, that you don't own "stuff" as much as it owns you.

Re: MOSIN 2023 Calendar

Can you remember the good old days when every merchant tried to give you a calendar? That was our family's data base. That was in the same days when service stations gave out free road maps, washed your windows, checked your air and oil while pumping your high-test gas for about $.29 per gallon.

Today's snake story.

My wife has a special dread of snakes; any variety, deadly or harmless, she knows on an intellectual basis that they are part of a healthy environment, but she doesn't give a damn. My wife also has a soft spot for birds. Just outside of the office that we share, and spend too much time in, are sever...

Re: More learning about leather

Here are two more. The one with the restraining strap in front of the hammer is for people who are paranoid about carrying cocked and locked. The other one is more my style.

Re: Gunshow Drama......

I love those Mosin Nagant accessory packs, you got a great deal on it for $15  The vendor had a store called Arias Artifacts in Panama City Beach, Steve aka SA1911a1 knows who he is. He's a great guy that's for sure. He had two of these kits on the table and a box full of them under the t...

Re: Hey, Mike! That storm has a bead on you!

I had no problems with the storm. I didn't respond to the text because I rarely use my phone. It was a non-event here. I got less than 3/4" inches of rain, and almost no wind. A few little gusts this morning, but nothing worse than our regular thunder storms. My brother, 30 miles East said he h...

Hey, Mike! That storm has a bead on you!

The one forming up just off the Yucatan. We should know a lot more by Monday. I am going to service my generators tomorrow...

I am dreading what one of those storms is going to do coming across that hot Gulf of Mexico; it could make for a dozy.

Re: Daily carry watch

I like pocket watches and wish that I could carry one. The last three attempts all ended up going through the wash. They came out clean and shiny but the tick was gone.

Re: Six o'clock in the evening and it is 97 outside.

Record setter, and it is supposed to be hotter tomorrow and Sunday. Jim, do you have an extra room? I wonder what it is like in Sonny's neck of the woods? Other than doctors appointments and the local gunshow Saturday, I haven't been out of the house for a several weeks. Its just been to damn hot i...

Was that scope as issued? I have quite a few binoculars but I haven't acquired a Spanish pair yet.

My almost K-98 ;)

Bringing this one out for your viewing pleasure. This is a Polish WZ-29, made with no markings other than a lined-out serial number and a mismatching bolt. The theory is that these were made before the war, by the Poles, and bought by the Russians to send to Spain. It does not appear that the rifle ...

Re: Downsizing my tactical carry

Looks good, but the bottom "hook" should stick out further to catch on your pocket when you draw it. I made it as a belt holster for quick draw! Marshall Dillon wouldn't stand a chance! Truth of the matter is, I would never depend on a .25 to defend anything. For me, minimum defense is 9M...

Re: Downsizing my tactical carry

If you empty your pocket of other items then you don't need the holster for stuff that small. Pocket pistols, nice that you can just wrap your hands around the piece and fire it right through the material of the pants in an emergency. just be aware you may set yourself on fire doing it. The Baby Br...
