Re: Is This a WW2 Remington Contract Receiver on My Finn 91
Definitely a Remington receiver. Circle R on the tang and the distinctive variation on the eagle on the top flat that was specific to Remington.

Re: M38 Manufactured in 1939 Value
It's been refurbed, the numbers are all force matched. The bolt and buttplate has a different font than the barrel. 39 dated m38s are a tough find and I see more that are Finn captured than standard refurbs like yours. It MIGHT bring 1000 at auction but the last couple most recent ones I've seen sol...

Re: Picture's of 1917 M91/30 with Matching Bayonet
Very nice ex dragoon. Honestly I think it's the first 1917 dated one I've seen. It's nice the importer and seller kept the bayonet with it. Most were mixed up after they were taken out of their crates.

Re: Requsting Help Identifying two rifles and one bolt
The 22 Izhevsk is MO marked. That used to be called a Ministry of Defence mark but is now known as a refurb marking. Your 43 date m44 is definitely a keeper. Uncommon for sure as is a 17 dated 91/30, but most likely force matched. Check and see if all of the serial numbers' font matches those on the...

Re: Will Someone Direct Me to a Izhevsk Serial Number Registry?
So, no one was walking around the battlefields of Eastern Europe trying to deduce the size of the Soviet land-component command by analyzing rifle serial numbers. Second, for those of you who’ve the interest, Mosin Nagant serial number records are available for many years of production for both OEM...

Re: Will Someone Direct Me to a Izhevsk Serial Number Registry?
Google "mosin sniper rifle database". Easy peezy.
And there actually was a method to the way they used serial number prefixes. Ratnik had mentioned before that you could narrow down what part of the year a mosin was produced based on the prefix but I can't remember the specific method.

Re: Is this a real 1943 PU Scope??
I was just addressing your statement about don't be afraid to remove old paint. Not very good general advise to give in a collecting field where paint is fairly common and correct.

Re: Is this a real 1943 PU Scope??
Well when the old paint is correct as how it left government usage/storage then yeah, no bueno IMO. A collector should ABSOLUTELY be afraid of removing paint or anything else until they are positive it's not a correct finish and then go from there. Lots and lots of nice surplus firearms and equipmen...

Re: Mosin I.D./Valuation
The front sight looks too short for a transitional 91/30 front sight. I'd say it's a shorter m91 blade. If so that will make it hit extremely high at the range. With the condition it looks like a Balkan import but could be a Spanish import. If there are no import marks Spain is a good possibility. I...

Re: Seeking information
Most "matching" mosins ate force matched refurbs so if that's what they are it doesn't really add a premium. Other than that, not enough to go on. Too many variables from mosin to mosin to give a blanket value with no specific info on each.

Re: Help needed
That is was a full length m91 infantry rifle, not a dragoon, that was shortened to 91/30 length and had the rear sight welded on. There should be a seam and spot welds at the muzzle end where they made a sleeve with the original front sight base on it and slid it over the shorter barrel. Not a bubba...

Nice Tula. The numbers were force matched at refurb and it's in an Izhevsk stock. Very common on refurbs. You did good though. I'm not knocking your rifle at all.

Nobody is mentioning the rarity of a 45 dated m38s. None were even listed in official production numbers. They are extremely hard to find. Nice find.

Imperial era but heavily refurbed. The seem to be bringing around 400 these days. Less if selling to a dealer for resale.

Nice m38. Probably sits in a later m44 stock like most refurbs are. Numbers are force matched but that's the norm for refurbs. I like it.

Re: Question about this Type 53 Mosin I just got off.
The stocks I've seen like that have always been attributed to the VC in "jungle workshops". Not sure how accurate that is but similar stocks have been posted on French MAS36 and other confirmed Vietnam bringbacks. I'll looks for pics of other t53s like this one. I have them saved somewhere...

Stock looks exactly like those I've seen on a few other Vietnam bringbacks. Nice carbine!

There's a very good possibility that the only thing original to your rifle is the barrel and receiver.
