Re: M44 Molot
I would believe the 9130 but only insofar as it was an ex Molot PU. Other than that, someone would have to show me to my face before I would believe them - smith or no smith. Oh I'm with you that's why if I hadn't seen the one at the show I wouldn't have even thought twice about the Molot rifles un...

Re: M44 Molot
Just a little bit of opinion from what some of the local gunsmiths are saying...the concensus is that the 91/30 and PU models are legitimate arsenal refurbs. However they do believe Molot is piecing together the 38s and 44s. In addition to building "new" and new short barrell hunters base...

Re: My first MG - What did I buy?
The forum chopped off the end of the barrel on the pic. I'll post more pics once I get her cleaned up a bit. I've got some research to do to learn how to disassemble and get the cosmoline off. Does anyone have a good/favorite source for info, or can I just search on this forum to get the info I nee...

Re: repro sniper scope question
Go with Ukrainian they are solid as all get out. I was forced due to damage to replace my PU scope and went with these. She'll never be the same but my buddies can't tell unless they look real close. Still shoots better than my modern Rem sniper. BTW the damage to mine came through a car wreck. Car ...

OK I work on antique military arms that's my primary focus and I have refused work because this is what they want. It's a shame.

Re: Frozen Mosin Shoot = 2014
The last to shoots I went to down here they awarded trophies and rifles to first place, whiskey to second and a six pack of Lone Star beer to third. Every body else had to police the spent shells. I didn't want the rifle and can't drink Jack so I pulled my last shot high right for a solid third in t...

Re: Mosins on TV
I have a friend who is a Viet Nam vet, he was a sniper and is for his current SWAT team the shot from the Mosin would have passed through the arm but as he states..." the ballistics of the 7.62X54R round cause it to tumble immediately after initial impact with bone causing a lot of damage."...

This is why I take dummy rounds to the shows and shops. They don't seem to mind me using the Pachymar but get testy when I pull out a bore scope.Junk Yard Dog wrote:The bullet method is a quick and dirty way to look at the crown, this is for home use of course, never pull out live ammunition at a gun show or gun shop.

Re: How many unfound Mosins are left ?
Due to my worsening case of mosinitis I decided to reconnect with a couple ex girl friends who were exchange students back in the early nineties and through them a couple of the guys who were from the same areas. While there are ample supplies of Mosins remaining there will be some changes in the ne...

Re: Shooting high with that Mosin?
Dangit why didn't I think of that! It would have saved me all that pesky trouble of going to thenrangemand sighting the rifles in. To think of all the spotted owls that will be dying from the lead exposure by the hundreds of rounds I buried in the dirt backstop. Lol... Seriously though great tip as ...

Re: The rifle I learned to shoot with
The rifle I learned to shoot with was my great uncle's frankensteined .30-06 that was used around the ranch for cattle slaughter time. I was 8 darn thing nearly dislocated my shoulder. The rifle was ugly sights were broken off and it shot so bad you had to be within 5 feet to be accurate as I learne...

Re: Casing Issues - Ammo? Rifle? Dangerous?
You are getting a lot of good advice. The problem is could be headspace, throat erosion, bad ammo, or any combination of the three. Check the head space use a bright led bore light and a magnifier to chech the throat. Or have your GS check the throat. If that's all good buy a box of PPU Match grade ...

Kotton Klenser, it's available online, just google the name. This will remove all the crap from the surface of the wood, it will even draw out some of the hidden crap, and it will not harm the finish. This is what I use on antique shellac covered Victrola cabinets , some of these machines cost twen...

....... Those war time barrels just get too hot too fast due to the lack of quality which was sacrificed for volume. Now don't get me wrong she shoots straight but she will take four hours to cool down after two boxes. My older ladies don't heat up like that until 200 or more rounds. ....... I do n...
