Re: Not a beast, but a Savage
I shot a .380 version of this. It was the stiffest pistol I have ever handled. It was hard as hell to rack the slide, but it fired fine.

Yes that is altering. We don't condone that. It is refreshing to see you read the rules and asked. Thanks.

Re: Repairing a 91/30 - Family Heirloom
You'd be better off buying a working one. Then you'll have the heirloom, and a functional one.

Re: new rifle
Take it all apart and use lacquer thinner on the metal parts, that should dissolve the paint. I would try mineral spirits and a rag on the wood. You want to get the paint off without sanding or bleaching out the wood. Test it in a small out of the way spot first. What kind of moron paints a rifle li...

Re: Yugo Zastava M70
Do you pull the trigger guard down to field strip it? Under the barrel there is a plunger, you push it in, rotate the barrel cap 180 degrees and the cap comes off, remove the slide lock (Falls out), remove the slide, pull spring out then the barrel. Hammer comes out in an assembly (Like a cassette)...

It's a refurbished1943 Izhevsk 91/30. It looks like a nice solid example. Although not rare or uncommon.

Re: considering first Finnish M39 purchase
A quick ebay search shows a reproduction for almost $300, and a couple of originals at 850 and 900. I guess that is the going rate these days. If the same guy you got your rifle from has the bayonet, it seems that he has a good bead on the prices.

Re: Inherited 1938 Mosin. Please help
You can use a bronze brush with the oil to scrub the rust. Bronze will not hurt the finish. Wipe with a clean cloth when done and reoil. I would clean the bore as well.

Re: considering first Finnish M39 purchase
I just looked at gunbroker and people are asking 1200 and higher for M39s. It seems like yours would not be a bad deal.

Re: considering first Finnish M39 purchase
Yes, it was quite some time ago. If they are bringing 900 where you are, then 1200 for something you want wouldn't be bad. I have overpaid for things, only to have the market catch up and make the purchase a good one.

Re: considering first Finnish M39 purchase
That is a nice looking rifle. I don't know what the going rate for them is these days. Last M39 I bought was $275.
