Re: Lost in a sea of ARs

I think the heart of the problem is that most men think they can shoot simply by virtue of being male. Unless you went through some mandatory training, (how many here remember BRM Week?) or had training in another form you tend to pick up bad habits. I expect my kids to shoot well because their inst...

Re: Lost in a sea of ARs

   We have chased a few plastic rifle shooters off the range before. They cant seem to hit much with the high dollar crap :bonk: "CRAP" is the key operative word here. Can some one PLEASE explain the obsession with black rifles to me?? I don't currently, nor ...

Re: Lost in a sea of ARs

We had quartering winds at 5 mph gusting to around 15. That may have been throwing the some of the AR shooters off. I spent enough years shooting at Camp Perry that light wind does not bother me and light wind like that is not going to effect M2 ball and 7.62 light ball much at 100 yds anyway. And y...

Lost in a sea of ARs

Local shooting range had a fund raiser shoot, all day pass for $5. So my son (24) and I went for a couple hours taking a Garand, 39 Tula 91/30 and 54 T53. At 100 yds they have steel gongs that are about 6"x12", or roughly the size of a shoe box. Unpacking the rifles we had a few people sto...

No, I'm talking about this one: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIt ... =481244849 I thought it would get a little closer to $500 actually. Had it not been for the stock I would probably have pushed it closer myself.

Re: cleaning

its a good question, i am curious as well. i read somewhere they lubed them with used motor oil, sounds odd to me I'd be surprised if there was much used motor oil available. However I've seen new motor oil used to keep a M2 Browning running and I've used ATF on a M60 so I don't see why used oil wo...

So did someone here win the Tula M44 Hex?

I was watching that auction but knew it would go for more than I was willing to pay. However I am hoping the new owner will post good pictures here so we can all be a little envious.

That rifle may have been collected close to where JYDs Type 53 was collected. IIRC Camp Eagle was providing support for the A Shau Valley at that time.

Re: VC capture

I have two firearms that I feel just the opposite about and on is a 36 Tula 91/30. It's hard to imagine a Mosin from that era not seeing some combat but thew hen I take it to the range I get positive vibes, like it's happy to be shooting again.

Re: Bladed bayonets?

If you watched Ken Burns "The War" closely you would have learned that roughly half the German infantry carried left handed K98 Mausers. I'm hoping that a few of the left handed versions will turn up in a Eu warehouse sometime as being left handed I'd dearly love to own one.

Re: Talo 10/22 TD

I bought one of the TD versions in the soft case when they first came out and really like it. It's one of the few firearms that I've ever bought that did exactly what I was hoping it would do. The hard case looks interesting but I see no way of getting a scope and/or suppressor in there, unlike the ...

However I'll second (or third) the Elby sight tool suggestion. I picked one up last year and was surprised how much better my groups became once I was not longer trying to guess the windage.

Re: Not a sub $100 Mosin anywhere

i really got into the military surplus way too late. if i could go back a few years i would have bought so many more mosins and SKS models Yeah, every now and then I wonder why I didn't pick up a couple of the Lugers or 1911s my LGS had priced at $199 back in the mid 1980s. But then I remember they...

Re: 1862 Springfield Musket

I think the hammer is from a M1855 Maynard Tape Prime lock, not a CW era Springfield. While I did so in the past I would not try and shoot that as a shotgun especially as the wrist looks cracked. However I would check to see if it was still loaded.

Re: Not a sub $100 Mosin anywhere

The local Cabelas has stopped carrying Mosins and the local Dunhams is closing their inventory out. They are selling regular stocked 91/30s for $139 and laminated for $159 and say they are not reordering.
