Re: Victory model

Very nice, those markings are still crisp. Often they get blurred during the overhaul. Hard to believe the rebuild on that revolver was 60 years ago.

Re: Enfield No 2 Mk I* Revolver

Wouldn't the "ENGLAND" and "CAL. 38" be more properly called export stamps? Placed there by the proof house when the revolver was released from Government service?

1942 M38.jpg
One odd thing is that a new serial number was added to the top of the receiver, obviously for import reasons. The same serial number was also added to the bolt with the old serial number having been scrubbed off first.

Re: M38 flea market find.

Yeah, I know. I'll try and get some pictures posted this week. While walking back to my table I had someone ask to see my Russian Mauser. Some people I don't even try and correct.

M38 flea market find.

Trying to clean out the barn so I set up a table at the local fairgrounds flea market. Walkign to get breakfast I found a 1942 Izhevsk M38. Typical refurb, post war stock, force matched numbers, counter bore etc. But the import mark is under the barrel above the cleaning rod, not plastered over the s...

Re: Ohio Gun Collectors Assn meeting

I gave up my membership in that dog and pony show years ago and I don't miss it a bit. Many people do like that show but it has never been real good to me or gave me any real buys. Then there is the long endless ride and it was not hard to eliminate it from my list. Good Luck! Is your source of Fin...

Wz 48, not sure if this is the correct forum

Ran across one at a LGS this weekend for $225. I know they used to be cheaper but so did everything else. Had a clean bore with no dry fire damage and what the heck, squirrel season is only 6 weeks away. Now if anyone knows where I can find a plastic stock and scope rings.... Just kidding, put the r...

Interesting find. " I have another of these that I have been tinkering with for years and have yet to make it cycle reliably,". I think that is a design feature and why they were a dead end.

Great find, bu the nose shape and origin I'm guessing those are the old 38/200s.

May dad carried a M1928A1 until he could trade it off for a M3. I'd gladly pay $3000 for his if it had the proper papers.

Great looking carbine! I see it's been through at least one rebuild but obviously stateside, not overseas.

Re: BP sticker shock

No, not for a long time. I shot a lot of BP on the 70's and 80's but quit in the mid 90's. A few years ago I friend was downsizing and gave me a good deal on a Remington Zouave and last year I saw a Remington 44 revolver at the Cabelas bargain cave at a price that tempted me too much. When I got to ...

Re: Revolvers, Crisco, Corn Meal & Cream of Wheat?

I always suspected that most chain fires, and I've had a couple, were actually caused by loose caps falling off and flash going down the nipple. I cannot see how spark can get down a properly fitting ball, greased or not.

BP sticker shock

I've struck out finding actual black powder in central Ohio. Thursday 4 of us from work were driving to NE Ohio on business. 3 of the 4 shoot muzzle loaders and as the Log Cabin Shop was only 4 miles out of our way we took a vote and decided to stop there for morning break. I asked the owner of he h...

Mosins in bulk

I have an acquaintance who asked about purchasing 200-300 Mosins for a project. A legal project I might add that will not harm the Mosins in any way. Other than the case of a few of you weeding out duplicates in your collection is it even possible to purchase a few hundred Mosins in one or two batch...

Re: need help. non 7.62 mosin?

Has the magazine well been modified or is it a single shot? It looks like the receiver hex has been modified for a longer cartridge that 7.62x54. The pictures also seem to show a marking for "8.8mm", which is the nominal bore diameter for 9.3mm rifles. So how does a 9mm bullet fit into the...

Guess I'm hypocrite, I recommend snap caps but often dry fire without them. One advantage of using snap caps is they help insure there is not a live round in the chamber.

Re: The current 'shortage' and the future. Your opinions?

One of my favorite adds in the 80's was "Rifles of Lost Empires, 3 for $99". You got an Austrian M95, an Arisaka and a Carcano, IIRC.
