Re: "Unicorn" arisaka trainer: a 38 Type Nambu Gun
Interesting, never seen one before, guess I've got some reading to do! You and me both. This one's not even mentioned in Military Rifles of Japan at all. Aside from the uniqueness of it I've only found one reference to it and it is a copy of the original add selling them back in the 20s. Apparently...

"Unicorn" arisaka trainer: a 38 Type Nambu Gun
Hey all. Here's one I came into not too long ago. I found it at a small gun show not far down the street from my house on a friend's table. I recognized the unique bolt release and style of safety as being for a 7/8 scale child's trainer and bought it thinking that was what it was. However after sho...

Re: Transitional type 99
I know the feeling. I don't collect arisakas exclusively but I somehow managed to bring 15 of them homeLongcolt44 wrote:Nice find. I don't collect Arisakas but I managed to have 8 of them.

Re: Transitional type 99
Great find! Mine is about 4,000 rifles newer than this one. The stock color strikes me as mine has a very dark red to it but I know different arsenals and even different within the same arsenal applied the urushi finish in different coats.

new type 38 arisaka
Hey gang. This arisaka walked into a show last weekend from a guy I've been talking to for the past couple of years about random milsurps and the like. Anyway I was able to pick this up for $300 as that was what he had in it and I was more than happy to pay that much for it. Reasons why are the fact...

Got a new rifle (another arisaka)
Well it seems like I answered my own question from my last post and ended up with yet another arisaka though it is a real looker. It's a series 11 Nagoya that came out of an estate. There were a couple other arisakas and a few real old sporting rifles but his by far was the best buy. I first noticed...

Re: Which kind of new rifle to get?
Do you have all types of Mosin Nagant there are to get? M-39? I have two 91/30s, one an ex-Dragoon sniper, and three M 44s, one of which was a Vietnam bring back. The Finn ones are nice but are all but extinct here as I've only seen one for sale locally at a show over the past six years. My local c...

Re: Which kind of new rifle to get?
Thanks everyone for all of the insight! I do already have a Garand thanks to my dad buying me one for a Christmas present a few years back so that one's crossed off the list for me. I also have an M1 carbine as well so that slot is filled as well. I've had K31s in the past but they just didn't do it...

Which kind of new rifle to get?
Hey gang. Sorry it's been a while since I last posted. I've been keeping up with all of the interesting posts so far and everyone's finding some great stuff. I've had to take a bit of a break in order to somewhat prioritize getting a steady income again. While that is going on I've been pondering wh...

Re: Type 38 trainer find
It looks fantastic! :Drool1: Since I'm not familiar with Arisaka trainers, what caliber is it? It's modelled after a type 38 so 6.5 caliber though it is a smooth bore so I can't fire live ammo out of it. It's definitely a wall hanger and an educational tool for when I do my display at shows to show...

Type 38 trainer find
Hey guys. I picked up this type 38 training rifle from a friend of mine who wanted a nice shooter arisaka. I ended up trading him a last ditch with a heavily sanded stock and he gave me this and $60 for it. I'm happy with the deal since I've been looking for a nice training rifle to go into my displ...

Local type 38 find
Hey gang. I haven't found anything for a while but this gem fell into my lap today while visiting a friend of the family. Her father served with the 2nd Marine Division during WW2 and sent home several items including this rifle. He carved into the stock where he picked it up (Guadalcanal) and when ...

New arisaka project done
Hey gang. Sorry it's been a while but nothing new has been popping up in my area that grabs my interest. Anyway at our small military show we have twice a year this little rifle was on a table from a seller who finds these things at local estate sales, garage sales, etc. I noticed right away that so...

Re: Ariska Type 99
Good on ya for passing that one up. Type 99s also had matching bayonet lugs so you would've had to find not only the correct type of stock for that rifle's series but also the correct matching bayonet lug as well. With the sportered arisakas the rule of thumb for me is unless the rifle has sentiment...

Very nice find for $300. In my area that's the going rate for any No4 that hasn't been sportered.

Re: My Jungle Carbine
Companys have been cutting up No4 rifles into No5's for many years, there were also kits offered for the home Bubba. Pop off that handguard, look for the scalloped cutouts around the barrel shank, nobody faked that part, or the lightening cuts to the receiver. It definitely has the scalloped cutout...

Re: My Jungle Carbine
Very Nice. Have you removed the handguard to check if barrel is matching? Have you added it to the Surplus Rifle Forum Survey? Mine is matching, except the magazine is unmarked. Definitely a premium for matching mag. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk From what I could find number wise tearing the ca...

Re: Type 94 nambu
Outstanding, I hope you document everything you know as someday a distant relative, son or daughter will know the information attached to the flag and pistol. I've documented as much as I can about them and my great uncle's service in Burma but with my great uncle's death the full story of how he a...

Re: Type 94 nambu
Normally my phone camera does a great job on zooming in but for whatever reason it won't get a good shot of the magazine numbers without tinkering with the photo a bit afterward.

Re: My Jungle Carbine
Recoil? What part of the rifle is that? I have shot mine probably a couple thousand times without issue. Definitely in the top ranks of my favorite shooters, it even shoots that crap POF ammo with minimal problems. Nice find, it's not about the money with stuff like this, it's finding one at all th...
