Re: Picked up this SVT-40 today

For a Finn Captured $1,200, typical Russian Refurb $900, add $200-500 for Podolsk to those numbers. Matching Russian Original $2,000+. Matching Podolsk Original $6,000. Matching Finn not sure. I have Finn Captured SVT-40s 1941 Podolsk not matching and 1941 Izhevsk partially matching. Both cost the ...

Cool score(?)

Looks like pre/early WWII Hungarian Mosin ammo pouches? Rectangular ring on back. Cleaning kit looks so much more authentic than those cheap new-looking bags. The thick leather pouches also look and feel more 'historical' than the pebble-grained stuff that comes with every out-of-the-case Mosin. Tho...

Re: front sight adjustment

My 91/30 front sight was off a good bit as well-the adjust tool lets you really dial it in.

Great stuff on there. Why did I think they were wholesale only? Maybe prices.

Re: Going rate for Russian capture 98k?

Thanks for the feedback. The one I'm looking at is on the high end and the stock finish doesn't look right, so I'll likely pass. Eagles are peened out too.

Re: Going rate for Russian capture 98k?

Thanks! I like the history behind the rifles as well (which is why I like the 41-45 Mosins), so I'd prefer original eagles. This helps out a lot. Because so few show up around here, even lousy non-German ones tend to have asking prices in those ranges.

Going rate for Russian capture 98k?

Just looking for what these are ballparking for at present. Prices have gotten bizarre on most everything in the past year or two. Looking at some run-of-the-mill early-mid war 98ks-laminate stocks, one has peened-out birds and "X". The other, just the X. Some mild pitting in the bores, bo...

I'm a huge fan of stripey/figured wood. Rare on gunstocks-great on guitars.

Re: 1942 Izhevsk refurb questions

Buck and a half for the last (and only) tin I could find locally. Lots of shops in the area, but all 7.62x54 is the small box at $1.00 plus/round. No one seems to have this stuff in stock anymore. Non-corrosive, but I don't recall anyone ever having issues shooting the old stuff as long as they clea...

Re: 1942 Izhevsk refurb questions

Your '42 looks great-nice original stock. Haven't seen one of those around these parts in a few years, but I'm sure they're out there. I just need to be a better hunter.

Re: 1942 Izhevsk refurb questions

Thanks so much for the info!

Yes-a Century import. Was told from Ukraine stocks which square with the stamp on the stock. Spent the weekend cleaning the cosmoline off/out and picked up a tin of ammo, so when I get a day off,'I'll run some rounds though her.

1942 Izhevsk refurb questions

Recently picked up a '42 91/30 refurb, but as any newbie to Mosin ownership, I have questions (so please go easy/be forgiving). I've been shooting these for decades owned by friends, but never seriously interpreted the marks, but have been meaning to snag one since they were dirt cheap and since the...

Re: Well this is embarassing...

A year ago 91/30s were at every shop for $125-150. Now the curve is up to $225-300 and they're all 'fresh from the case', so you've got to put time into cleaning the cosmo off of them. Any ready-to-shoot Mosins left around here are at least $225 and have a rust patina or terrible stocks. Cabela's cp...
