Re: Makarovs show them off!
Finally made it to the range and it was great! This is my first Makarov so I wasn't quite sure what to expect but I really enjoyed it. It has a really fast recoil? Hard to describe but it wasn't a bad thing, just different from other semi-autos that I've shot. It was almost like it's really more spr...

Re: Makarovs show them off!
Here is my recent acquisition:
Bulgarian Circle 10 Makarov, I don't have any pictures since I've cleaned it up, but it was pretty heavily coated in cosmo. Hoping to shoot it tomorrow!
Doesn't look so bad, then take off the slide....

Re: Two SKS questions
I can't help with a specific book, but I use this website often for reference:
http://www.yooperj.com/
There are tons of sections on different parts of the SKS and it's many variants.
And the '52 Tula Refurb I just got last month does have a beautifully chromed barrel!

Re: Original Turn In Mosin's
I guess the best thing to say about these rifles is buyer beware. Like I said, it's similar to a lottery; you might get a good shooter, you might not! I got lucky, but I really feel like I could have gotten a lemon.
I'm just trying to help.

Re: Original Turn In Mosin's
Sorry if I caused confusion, it was a 91/30 that was refurbished sometime after WW2, and then was probably used in one of the Warsaw Pact countries and drug around for a couple years, beat to hell, dipped in grease and sold to the US at some point after sitting in a basement for years. So they are v...

Re: Original Turn In Mosin's
I have a mosin from their last 'basement' turn-in "find". It's definitely an interesting rifle, a tula with everything matching except for the remington bolt. It's a 1926 hex tula 91/30 refurb (with 1917 receiver). They also try to sell it as a 'non-refurb' with the whole turn in thing; th...

Re: 1952 Tula SKS
Did you get a spring with the new collar or have to reuse your old one... weak saggy springs don't help matters. You may, or should be able to stretch the spring to increase pressure. Or one other option to try, find a M44/Type 53 bayonet collar spring, they seem a little more stout than the SKS sp...

Re: 1952 Tula SKS
I've gotten the new collar for the bayonet and it improves the droop, but hasn't fixed it completely! :x My next try is a different bayonet blade! I found an early Russian bayonet (shiny) with collar that I'm going to try. I know that it won't match the refurb style of the rifle; however, the bayone...

Re: Russian SKS
I had decided to try and ask for the rifle, but it had already sold. So I ended up going with brokegunner instead and got a '52 tula refurbished for about $550 all said and done. I am very happy with the rifle ^__^ It shoots like a dream and I was surprised just how quickly I blow through ammo on it...

Re: N.E. Ohio gun show report
I was so on the fence about going to the Berea show this weekend and ended up not going. I'll likely go later this year once things settle down a little on my end, but thanks for posting your observations! I went to the Eastlake, Ohio show last weekend and had mixed results. A couple of interesting ...

Re: Odd Refub Markings on '26 Tula
It is an ex-dragoon I believe. I don't have the best photos of it (from before initial cleanup), but I'll post the small album I have of it Here . The poor girl was pretty beat up when I got it and buried in cosmoline. All matching except the bolt :vsad: It shoots very well however! I'm thinking mor...

Odd Refub Markings on '26 Tula
I've been trying to dig a little deeper and learn more about the history of my 1926 Tula and have been having some trouble identifying the refurb markings on the barrel. It kind of looks like a Ukrainian box stamp, but is really hard to tell. I was wondering if I could pick your brains on it. Also, ...

Re: 1952 Tula SKS
So I went shooting yesterday and it was great!! I fired a single round first to ensure operation, then two rounds, then five, and then before I knew it I shot all the 80 rounds of ammo I had brought.... :D I love shooting my Mosin, but I've never gone through so much ammo so quickly as with the SKS....

Re: A century has past. Show off your 1917 Mosins.
Well my whole rifle isn't from 1917, but the receiver is!
The rest is 1926, but it still has the eagle!
I know it's not all from 1917, but the rifle's getting up there. Still shoots straight as an arrow!

Re: 1952 Tula SKS
So I broke this guy down tonight and this gun is filthy! :beek: I did find a surprise cleaning kit in the stock for starters. The retainer pin was tough to get out, I ended up using a heat gun to soften up the gunk and was able to get it out with the die and hammer. The big thing I found is RUST! :b...

Re: 1952 Tula SKS
Taking the cleaning rod out didn't help, so it is definitely the collar. I've ordered the one from Ebay and it should hopefully arrive sometime next week! In the meantime I intend to take it out to the indoor range (25yrd) this weekend for firing trials! All of our longer ranges are usuall...

Re: 1952 Tula SKS
I do want to get my C&R! I didn't think I'd have my second eligible rifle this soon, it's kind of addicting collecting...... Just gotta do the paperwork now...
Also Mark, that would be great if you could post a pic of the lug so I could compare!
Thanks!

Re: 1952 Tula SKS
Including the shipping and FFL fee it ended up totaling $540
That's the fee for being impatient and going through gunbroker I guess. But at least I got what should a solid shooter, and a Russian Tula at that!
