Re: dirty barrel problems

I started using generic Windex (with ammonia) and think this helps quite a bit. The wife was giving me too hard of a time with me having rifles in her kitchen dumping hot water down the bores into the sink. Anyway, I do the Windex first (brass brush and patches, then Hoppes with patches, then 1 patc...

My first M39

I picked up this M39 last week from a private seller. It's a 1944 VKT built on 1906 Izhevsk receiver and it's in real good shape, great bore and shoots great. It has a cool plum colored rear sight spring and the butt stock has the reinforcement inserts. The only drawback is that it's bolt, although ...

Re: Mosin crate

AIM in Middletown, Ohio sold me one for $5 and even helped me load it in the truck. Things are a lot heavier than they look.

M48A stock graffiti

Hello All, I picked up a M48A this week and after closer inspection and cleaning noticed this carved into the stock. It looks to be the Croatian Coat of Arms. I'm thinking that perhaps this one was brought out of reserve at the beginning of the Yugoslav Wars. Has anyone seen this type of carvings on...

Re: Unexpected Finn Xmas present

Beautiful rifle and neat story. You should be able to pick up some accessories at the gun show. At least, at the larger shows the vendors seem to have a bunch of slings, cleaning kits, etc. Thanks for sharing!

Re: Cured my sticky bolt....

Good news that you solved the problem. I've got a 1930 Tula that has a rough spot on the chamber, and it is hard to cycle too. I might give the file a try. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Mosins gone!

Around here (SW Ohio), they have dried up big time from gun stores. I did pick up a 43 Izhevsk in a laminate stock from Dunham's (will post pics soon) but all the other places that I've bought from before are out of stock. The pawn stores get them from time to time, but everything I've looked at rec...

Re: INSTRUCTIE marked Hungarian M44

I took it to the range today and at 50 yards with resting my elbows on the bench I was able to keep the shots within a 10" group. I didn't notice any keyhole marks on the target. I'm very happy, given the extreme muzzle wear on this one. It cycles very easily too - probably good and broke in! T...

Re: Need opinion of 1933 banner Mauser

My son bought it several month's ago at a local gun store. It was there on consignment, which is common at our local small town gun shop. I think the shop owner, the previous owner and my son knew very little about it other than it was a German Mauser. My son has a small collection of WW2 rifles fro...

Need opinion of 1933 banner Mauser

Hello, I would like some opinions on the value of this Mauser. It's a 1933 with all matching serial numbers (screws, cleaning rod, and all major parts including the stock) except the bolt, all bolt pieces match each other. It has the D.R.P. cartouche on the stock and on the sling slot has stamped DR...

Do you have another bolt that you could swap and test if it does the same?

Re: INSTRUCTIE marked Hungarian M44

I don't think there's enough crown there to do much. Accuracy for me isn't that big of a deal. Here's how most of my sessions at 100 yards go. 1) I shoot, 2) The boy (my son) says "You hit the paper!", 3) I say "What paper?". I'll give it a go and report back!

Re: INSTRUCTIE marked Hungarian M44

The bore has cleaned up and looks like some of the refurb M91/30s that I have. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would say it's a 6. It has some shine to it and you see the rifling. I took it apart and cleaned everything. There is no rust or pitting on any of the metal parts. It's just that worn muzzle that ...

INSTRUCTIE marked Hungarian M44

Hello All, Here are some pics of a Hungarian M44 I picked up today. They thing that got my attention was the stock markings - "INSTA" on one side and "6" on the other. Here are the other particulars - It is a 1953 and has matching numbers on the barrel, receiver, stock and buttpl...

Very nice rifle. I have a 44 Tikka built on a 1904 Tula hex receiver. It's my favorite and is very accurate also.
