Thank you both. I was thinking they Reds ground off the crest after the revolution - did not know they ground them off when they sent them to the Balkans. Will try to post some pictures.

Two weeks ago acquired a M1891 Tula dated 1917. Grand old girl I just couldn't pass up. Receiver and butt plate numbers match but bolt and magazine are different numbers. Just picked up a M1891 - crest missing but dated 1917. Hope I am off to a good start. Tula mfr. Have rectified the missing cleaning rod.
