Re: Cleaning the Bore of my M91

Hello captain! I was getting similar results out of my newly bought Tikka 91/30 and I was on the verge of just leaving it be when I finally got at least a grey patch rather than the black I was getting. I only got those results after actually shooting it, so it will probably get better the more that...

Re: An Old Warhorse With Many Tales To Tell.

Yeah, I was starting to think that I was comparing apples to oranges. I guess I just want to be able to enjoy the rifle for its capabilities without worrying about damaging it. I guess I'm forgetting that it's a mosin and it has already been there and done far more than I will ever do, it's not mere...

Re: An Old Warhorse With Many Tales To Tell.

Junk Yard Dog- As I said it may just be some old story meant to scare someone away from milsurps, but I do know of one case of a sleeved chamber or chamber insert conversion that is generally considered unsafe-Chilean 1895 Mausers that were bored out and sleeved to 7.62x51. The problem with those, a...

Re: An Old Warhorse With Many Tales To Tell.

It's just that I have heard tales that sleeved chambers, as in possibly rechambered to 8x50r and then sleeved back to 7.62x54r, were considered to be mildly unsafe. I suppose this could be gun folklore and not be the truth, but I am rather attached to my face and would like to remain that way. I app...

Re: An Old Warhorse With Many Tales To Tell.

Well, I got some more pictures of the old gal. I am now quite certain that the bore has been relined, which would explain the remarkable condition of it. Unfortunately for this rifle's status as one of our best shooting rifles, it looks like the chamber has been sleeved. :? I still want your opinion...

Re: An Old Warhorse With Many Tales To Tell.

I know, but everyone I've seen is correctly identified and priced accordingly. I guess we're not as clueless in Kansas as some people think we are. What I do see commonly out here is common items like 91/30 bayonets passed off as "rare, one of a kind, WWI/II relics" to the uninformed...

Re: An Old Warhorse With Many Tales To Tell.

Well, there has been a new development with this rifle today. Dad and I finally found an old Tula lockring bayonet that we like on ebay and went ahead and got it for around $75 without shipping factored in. Maybe I will have to update with some pictures of the added pointiness when that shows up. :b...

Re: An Old Warhorse With Many Tales To Tell.

I just noticed as I was looking at these pictures and the mosin showcase (I'm having trouble falling asleep) that martin08 has a 1905 Tula Austrian capture with a very similar, if not identical, letter Z on the barrel shank. I wonder what significance that mark is? Maybe we should throw up the moose...

Re: An Old Warhorse With Many Tales To Tell.

racerguy00- I have looked for signs of a sleeve in the chamber and I haven't seen any, but I still sometimes wonder. I may just have to get some pictures of it and post them for more pairs of eyes to scrutinize. I'll have to tell the old gal how many compliments she's getting, maybe she'll have a re...

An Old Warhorse With Many Tales To Tell.

Brace yourself- This is a long post with a second one needed for pictures. I thought it was about time that I showed you guys the rifle that made me start thinking seriously about joining one or more of the various mosin forums. This rifle is the first and so far only M91 that I have any experience ...

Re: Calling Finn experts-small issues- shooting high and rig

That's interesting about the rear sight slider being too far back. Dad and I have a Finned M91 that I was planning on posting about today that shoots fine for him with the slider all the way back, but I have to put it on the 'actual' lowest setting to have my elevation right. Then again, we both kno...

Re: My first Finn- 34 Tikka M27 lots of pics!

Nice rifles! I know this is a mosin forum, but I have a soft spot for jungle carbines. The first full-powered rifle I ever shot was dad's No. 5 Mk. 1 and ever since, I have a liking for hard-kicking rifles.

Longcolt44- I understand and I will only post the (more numerous anyway) untouched ones only. Junk Yard Dog- I considered your offer and decided that I simply cannot part with my hair yet, I'll just have to wait and see if it ever starts falling out before I can make amends (it will probably be a wh...

Re: A New Guy Question About The Rules.

I know, it's just that at the time we thought that repairing the damaged finish was the right thing to do because the damage was caused by the import process and wasn't 'original'. I just wanted to know if it was okay to show off the oddities that were either the reason we bought the rifle or were d...

A New Guy Question About The Rules.

I know that this is very much a preservation forum and I myself am pretty much a preservationist now, but I was curious about some past mistakes of mine. I was wondering whether or not it would be acceptable to show one or two of the mosins that my dad and I have that we "patched" the fini...

Welcome from one new guy to another. I wish I had an Izhevsk with that clear of a Soviet crest, I've never seen one so clear before.

BubbaDX- Yes I did take it apart and check the tang date. It is built on a 1938 Tula receiver.

Re: A Proper Introduction/My 1944 Tikka Kiv. 91/30

bunkysdad- My dad isn't really the forum type, but I may be able to convince him to let me share one or two of our more interesting pieces. Lotema- I noticed the round receiver as soon as I spotted it and I was genuinely surprised that it- A. was not ridiculously priced and B. was not already gone b...
