Re: Question re. my 1895 Tula

My apologies as I got confused between M38s and M91/30s for a bit. But it seems everyone else is too. Especially regarding the bayos on these things. So let's sort this out. It's a 91/38, look at the receiver marks. They were all made from Imperial m91's, They all had bayonets and all have the plug ...

Re: Lowerish end Red Dot?

Be careful of low-end optics on your shotgun... they may not survive the repeated recoil. Sometimes, you get what you pay for and you just have to shell out the extra $$$ to get one that will withstand the beating.

Re: Question re. my 1895 Tula

I'm confused about this MN Forum statement: Manufactured from 1939 to 1945 at the Izhevsk arsenal. Manufactured in 1940 and 1944 at the Tula arsenal. How did this rifle manufactured at Tula in 1895 become a M38 configuration? I hope the photos are adequate to help. Thanks Vic All your questions can...

Re: AK-47 scope

That LPS / TIP2 scope has a Dragunov 1000m reticle designed for the 7.62x54R round... which you all know. But there is a reason they developed the Simonov 400m reticle specifically for the 7.62x39 round. While you can shoot anything with any reticle, the BDCs, turrets, and etc may not be as effectiv...

Re: Iver Johnson Champion

I inherited one too. It's in rough condition, though. It's number is: FRIF (1821). So probably made early-mid 1940's.

I have custom molded ear plugs. Best thing ever. light, comfortable, and easy. And they weren't that expensive either.

Re: 9mm "conversion"?

Nope. Just... nope. ....As entropy stated above. 9mm Mak (9x18) is .364-.365 diameter and is 92-95grains. 9mm Luger (parabellum or 9x19) is .355-.356 and 115-147 grains. Big differences. Same with the cases. Makarov cases are obviously wider and shorter than Luger cases. To try and trim / shorten / ...

Re: Holidays with my Vepr

Those are nice groups. I had a 54r Vepr, but sold it before I shot it. Your performance looks much better than what I read about their accuracy. I should gave kept mine-- just couldn't pay $400 for the stock set I wanted (I missed the converted ones that Atlantic Firearms had for sale). Thanks! The...

Re: Imperial Nagant Revolver (non-refurb)

For $800 you can keep them.Old and unrefurbed doesn't make them any better as pistols as far as I'm concerned. As a firearm, they are among the worst military revolvers ever fielded. As a piece of history, they are pretty slick. I agree with this. Their design and ingenuity is perfect for what the ...

Re: What kind of russian sks is this?

Century was known for putting scopes on things that didn't originally have them. The 'x'ed out number on the stock signals a Russian refurb. But as Longcolt44 said, without the original cover, you may never know the date.

Re: Holidays with my Vepr

I have heard that the heavier ammo (Over +/- 150 grains) will batter a PSL apart after a while. I realize this rifle is not a PSL, but a Russian Dragunov clone, but is there an issue with this? Just curious. That is a sweet rig BTW. There is no issue with heavy ball ammo in a Vepr. It has a heavier...

1951 Tula

Just thought I'd share my 1951 Tula that I picked up a few years ago. This is my first and only SKS (so far). I wanted my first SKS to be a Russian and it took many years to find one and one in a condition that was decent. This one is in great shape! Previous owner fired it once and stored it for ma...

Holidays with my Vepr

One day over the holidays warmed up to 37 degrees and the wind died down, so spent some range time with my 23" Vepr 54R SVD clone. Pulled the scope off and just used irons since the homemade range on my folks land is only about 40-50 yrds. I also needed to test out a couple new mags I had purch...

Re: Model 91 SA Marked 1905 Sestroretsk (showcase Submission)

Nice Sestroretsk! Glad to see another. My very first gun I purchased by myself when I turned 18 was a 1904 Finn-marked Sestroretsk! It's what started my obsession with Mosins, the 54R round, and Russian firearms. Mine has numbers similar to yours (matching bolt, barrel, and receiver but all other do...

Re: Hoping this is an Arsenal-made Sniper?

Everything I see on my phone looks legit. It appears it has been through arsenal refurbishment a couple of times. Group West imported some of the last batch of Molot PU'S imported Thanks for the feedback. That's what I was hoping. I also liked that Group West put their import mark under the barrel ...

Hoping this is an Arsenal-made Sniper?

I was able to pick this up several years ago from Classic. Looking more closely at it now, I don't think it started its life as a sniper and it could be a fake, or maybe perhaps (hopefully?) this is at least a PU that an arsenal made from a regular Izhevsk 91/30? I don't know. But I welcome thoughts...
