Re: 1943 Tikka M91
You bought this blind on the internet?. Yes and no, "sight unseen" is an exaggeration, it had one crappy picture. The photo only had a side view that started from the rear sight to the buttstock. I saw the wire hangers and Arshin sights so I knew it was either a Finn or Finn capture M91. ...

1943 Tikka M91
My local FFL was in his shop today so I got to pick this up today. I bought it from an online auction house and had to speculate what it was. I am glad I did, looks to be an 1943 Tikka M91 built on a 1897 Tula receiver. Question: What is the A stamp on the receiver and tang? http://i158.photobucket....

Re: Buy this ammo or not?
I think the 53 refers to the Type 53, since 56 would refer to Type 56 which is 7.62x39. Bulgarian and Russian are going for $100 everywhere else, so I would buy it. I assume its 1951 production, so could be brass case in which you could sell the scrap and gets some cash back.

Re: Can't find any bullets!
Powdervalley is good, bought several thousands primers and a few jugs of powder from them during the "panic." They were backed up a month on orders last year and the Items shipped in 3~ weeks so not bad given situation.

Re: My first Mauser, then another one.
Finally got my C&R recently and put it to good use and added three new rifles to the collection. First is a 1895 Chilean Mauser, 1923 Finnish captured Tula M91, and won an auction on a 1943 Tikka M91 (Hopefully...only a picture of the rifle which was definetly a M91 and vague description "1...

I always get a kick out of the AR's with no sights or flip up sights that don't get used.

Re: Interesting Mixture of Head Stamps in 7.62x54r Can.
The bought several of the 15rd round boxes of Yugo 54r (thought it was 7.62x39 m67). It threw me for a loop seeing multiple head stamps with various years of manufacture. Not sure if its resourcefulness, laziness or penny pinching...probably all three.

Re: My first Mauser, then another one.
It is interesting how many country's took the German rifles and scrubbed them. I'll have to pick up Yugo 98/48 next I guess. Compared to the Turk which has crescent moons everywhere, the M44 has almost no markings/proofs. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t95/Pip6214/20140317_234124_zpshfz4mwkz.jpg...

My first Mauser, then another one.
I've always wanted a Mauser but unfortunately I didn't get into collecting/shooting rifles until the 8mm surplus was gone. This kept me from purchasing one and stuck to Mosin Nagants. Here are my first Mauser's I added to my collection this weekend. Spanish M44 Air Force & 1937 Turkish 1903, bot...

Question on some 8mm Mauser
I picked up some MG belts that had mixed surplus loaded on them. It was mostly Turk, Greek and some Egyptian. However, their was about 30 rounds that was British. Half were ball (IIZ) and the other half were AP rounds (WIIZ) apparently meant for the Besa MG. I haven't found much info about the Brit ...

I would love to win this Auction.
Saw this on an auction site, it is a Finn Captured SVT-40 w/ bayonet. I would think the $600-800 estimate would be about half of what it will go for.

:soapbox: Also I picked up three of these things, the guy said they were 7.62 54r. China ? I think I got taken on them, might take them back. (Gun Show) . I colored the black on to try and read them. http://i58.tinypic.com/am6q8x.jpg How much did you pick these up for? They are 750 rounds of 7.62x3...

Re: Is this barrel kaput?
That's good to hear but with my current insurance & financial situation I'll stick to shooting my other mosins & vepr. I basically got this for free so Ill use this as a spare parts/SHTF rifle. Another mismatched Mosin nagant I got for free had a bubba'd stock, no bayonet or sling so I at le...

Re: surplus ammo question
If you have a Facebook, I would suggest joining the group Louisiana 7.62x54r Only. Decent group to find ammo, info, etc. but a lot of Bubba and Archangel abominations. I've seen some Chinese API for sale on there around NOLA. Unlike 8mm Mauser, 8mm mannlicher and some other surplus, 54r usually is h...
