Re: Discussion on a Yugo 98/48

For the life of me, I can't understand why this thread has gone on and on. All the Yugo 98/40's I've encountered have struck me as cheap, poorly manufactured and finished and really hideously grindy on the action. In short, just a junk non-collector's cast-off. Unless you are absolutely on the botto...

Re: M1 Garand Main Spring

Right on, man, right on. I rejoice daily, that, after 33 years in the job I had, I have all my fingers and toes. Slip-joint pliers are great. I wrote my reply based on what I thought would be best, not, by the grace of God, what I had to deal with...

Re: K98's Show'em if you got'em

Here's my DOT 43. Pretty much like the one on page 216 in Law's book "Backbone of the Wehrmacht". If he is correct, then this is one of the very last made in 1943. It has a few 1944 features, like the Triggerguard being marked BYF, not 214. It is all matching. The Handguard is marked on to...

French Mannlicher-Berthier 1892/16

Just had Lock-Stock-and-Barrel sell this for me on Auctionarms. One of a lot of 35 guns. Mostly duplicates, and firearms I've owned for a long time. Had to cull the herd..

Re: M1 Garand Main Spring

You are supposed to grab the Follower Rod near it's "fork", and pull it towards the muzzle end. This will disengage the Rod and release the Main Spring. A pair of needle nose pliers with some electrical tape on the teeth to prevent marring would make that job somewhat easier.

I owned one of those converted to .308. It looked just like yours. Shot very accurately, also.

Re: Remington 1917 Mosin Nagant

Nice condition, all around. However, it's a barreled action from one rifle, and the rest of the parts from a different rifle, so whether or not the safety matches, seems a moot point.

Re: C&R FFL

To add to what dolk is saying, I always felt that by having a C&R FFL, the Fed and local Sheriff's Dept,(which you have to apply to also) thought, "Hey, you're a GOOD guy, we'll focus on the criminals"...

Re: A nostalgic look back..1997 Century Arms Catalog..

Collecting old guns has definite benefits, aside from holding history in your hands, the fun of shooting them, talking about them, etc.. Didn't think about it when I started, but investing in them is what is called a "well known secret"...Now.

Re: C&R FFL

Be careful and judicious with the "bound book"...make sure it's at least stapled together- no "loose leaf" type binder... I had a C&R FFL for 15 years. I speak from experience... The Fed is serious about having your license displayed in a prominent place. They will let you kn...

Re: Bore gel

One thing I can't recommend with ANY combination of solvent is a stainless steel bore brush. The bristles are just too harsh..patience, patience...(and Kroils with bronze wool..)...that's the key. We all want to be gratified RIGHT NOW... but dirty, nasty bore cleaning takes patience and resolve..plu...

Re: A nostalgic look back..1997 Century Arms Catalog..

dolk- I remember walking past (not so old at the time) military firearms, laid out on blankets at our local swap meet. Mausers, 1903's, all manner of war trophy Japanese rifles, British surplus, etc....This was WAY before the 1968 Gun Control Act....Now THAT was a Long, Long Time Ago, in a Galaxy Fa...
