Re: Shot out C96 barrels
Just managed to win one for under mid-three figures. Here's a pic from the ad. I figured for the price it was worth a try.. The serial number indicates 1911-1915 from what I've been able to learn. Per the ad - "Gun is German made. All markings are clear and legible.Metal surfaces retain a pleas...

Shot out C96 barrels
Any thoughts to why it seems like so many C96s have shot out barrels? I find it curious because military side arms are not typically actually used that much (compared with battle rifles, machine guns, etc.). Even police organizations don't usually expend so much ammunition as to wear out a barrel. I...

Strange Mosin variant?
Since it is a current item on a web site, I won't mention the site or show pics, but I ran across a MN that looked rather unique. It looks similar to the alternatively stocked M27 but it doesn't appear marked SA anywhere. Unlike those rifles, this one fits inside the wood very well. Its a Remington ...

Re: M39 Bayonet = $401.00 = Best Offer
Welcome to the club! I'd wipe it down myself.......rag, paper towel.......what comes off comes off. Mine didn't need it. It got used somewhere.....soldier....ex-soldier......they're very "outdoorsy" people. Mine's razor sharp.....I got it that way.........it cuts if you look at it too long...

Re: New addition to my WW1 project
Just got back from the range. I put about 25 rounds thru each pistol. Considering my physical ailment and eyesight, i still managed 60% inside the seven ring or better, offhand at 10 yds. Not great, but then I never shot either one before. Each pistol shot dead on/point of aim at 10 yds. The Luger h...

New addition to my WW1 project
This is one of the newest additions to my project. The first ones were my 1916 Erfurt Mauser K98az and the 1916 DWM Luger. I've skipped ahead to 1918 and added this .45 Caliber Hand Ejector Model of 1917 caliber .45 ACP from Smith and Wesson. It was shipped to the Springfield Armory on January 19th,...

Some quick pics of my 1916 98az
I've been procrastinating for some weeks now, so I decided to snap some quick ones. Better ones later.

I've seen those also, but the ones I've seen were double dated...this one isn't.

Re: Misc. stamps/codes on 1916 Mauser
Many thanks. I was able to squeeze the K98a page (the one linked to is the original K98 model that they decided was the wrong way to go.) Unfortunately, it doesn't give mention to misc. stamps. It does, however, reinforce my idea that this might be a theater rebuild (not matching completely) as the ...

Re: Curious
Back in those days, the thought behind those extended range sights was to use them for harassing fire........sort of like mini-howitzers. Get your squad/platoon/company to start lobbing shots into "those woods over yonder" and you're likely to hit something........if you don't, at least yo...

Misc. stamps/codes on 1916 Mauser
I am having difficulty getting the straight skinny on some stampings. I'm looking at a K98a(z) with a code stamped on the bolt takedown insert - J.S.101, and a different code stamped on the butt plate - P.B.d.101. Their format does not seem to properly coincide with unit designations. I did read som...

Re: Curious
20+ years ago, when I was on the HP rifle team, we shot a 1000 yrd course of fire. NM M14, heaavy barrel, equally heaavy stock, NM ammo...I could hit 12" or less four out of five times. That was fun! What wasn't fun was walking 1000 yds to the pits, and then back again when it was over. I used ...

Re: Spanish Civil War Mosin
I don't want to be a wet blanket........or a kibbitzer.........but shouldn't it have either a "Made in USSR" or "Made in URRS" stamp on the barrel and/or receiver? I didn't see any in the pics.........or did I miss it?
