Re: Shooting the Mosin

I was aware of how to turn the screw. It was just kinda stuck even though I soaked it in break free. Also, I can see an area in the stock that has a small steel shim or shims tacked in place under the barrel. This must be what the Finns did.

Re: Shooting the Mosin

Thanks. I meant point of impact, not point of aim. The band is coming from Finland, so it might take a while to get here and I'm anxious to get to shooting.

Shooting the Mosin

I broke the screw on the front barrel band of my M91. Being a Finnish model, the band is secured in place by a small screw in the stock right in front of the band. My question is, is it ok to shoot the rifle before my new band arrives? Will a new barrel band when tightened in place change the point ...

Re: The Rest Of The Story

Like desdem12 said, I earlier posted pics of disassembled barrel/receiver with markings. Thought I'd post a pic of the assembled rifle. My first Mosin Nagant.

Re: Finnish Mosin Nagant

There are definitely a couple small circle c's, and an open C at the rear edge of the tang. But I've come to see that there is no exact science to markings on these rifles. In any case, my next objective is to see how well it shoots.

Re: Finnish Mosin Nagant

I believe it is a Model 91. The front of the barrel is marked M91 Finland with some other import marks.

Re: Finnish Mosin Nagant

Perhaps I shall consider a mortgage. Where can I shop for a bayonet? And I understand that there are some Finnish bayonet holders? I have an original Finnish-issued cleaning kit coming from Finland and would like to complete this rifle with all original accoutrements.

Re: Finnish Mosin Nagant

You are correct. It is jointed, not laminated. Now I need to find a bayonet. Are there Finnish-marked bayonets available?

Re: Finnish Mosin Nagant

I'm an American Finn with a great interest in Finland and her history, and saw this rifle at a recent gun show. I remembered something about how the Finns laminated the stocks on these rifles, and when I saw the lamination joint I had to buy it. It has a bit of history behind it, even showing the Ru...

Re: Finnish Mosin Nagant

I'm a bare novice, but I think the stock is original finish. It is a very handsome rifle.

Re: Finnish Mosin Nagant

Do you mean shims on the stock under the action? There is a small square metal plate tacked in place there.

Finnish Mosin Nagant

Just bought my first Mosin Nagant, a 1943 Tikka. I don't know who made it originally. I'll post a pic of the assembled rifle later. Thoughts?
