Re: Are these worth anything?

I recently purchased a nice 1936 Tula hex with a laminate stock off Gunbroker for $385 ( $420 with shipping )... At least one other guy was willing to spend $375.. I did not see the $500 guns selling

Re: Letters Of Authenticity Question

Interesting. I just remembered seeing them. I thought they were Russia only. My Mosin interest has always been 'correct/ original' milsurp condition as pulled from crates or whatever. I know Molot was sort of sought after for the Vepyr's but that's likely also what got them banned.. US goverment sla...

Re: Letters Of Authenticity Question

I seem to remember Molot produced Sporter Mosins at one point which were only marketed to Russia. I think the link to them was on this site. But they were sold as new. No clue if they were sporterized originals or not, but this would have been ~2013-2014 Pre Obama ban

Re: Unknown Chinese type 56 SKS, Un sporterizing

It's a blade stock that I put on it ( pics posted ). I have a spike bayonet so the spike would not close.. Spike is longer than blade... For now it's just without a bayonet

Re: My Early B-day Present

Looks like a nice rifle. What the other people responding are saying is that the wood stock was altered to look more modern after the war. They call this sporterized. People buy military surplus rifles and sporterize them to use for hunting, target, etc. unfortunately most of the guns value is lost...

Re: My Early B-day Present

I was the first to see this, but didn't want to be the person to bear the bad news.. The good news is you can have fun with it most likely and not have to worry ( it's already cut and worth half price ).. UNLESS it might be a Bannerman.. According to Ian at Forgotten Weapons, Bannerman sold rifles i...

Re: Red Army Standard, golden tiger?

Apparently they are both made in the Vempyl plant and other forums discuss they are similar. Outdoor limited just got in some Max Tech also made at Vempyl. Probably similar. Any of them are under $6/ box right now. Tempting to buy 500 rounds of something I'm probably hitting up my LGS for some more ...

Well, I pulled the bayonet off it and flopped it into the Russian stock. I still have the hand guard to mess with but that will wait for the weekend

I will wait for a good deal on a blade bayonet

Re: Won a Mosin.

According to your FFL, an M-44 or SKS would be illegal because they have bayonets... agreed. anything with a bayonet lug actually. although he's not correct. I've read over the law many times, and checked here to be sure and with other gun shops previously.. What matters is a firearm has or does no...

Re: Won a Mosin.

I just picked the gun up yesterday and it's every bit as nice as I thought. Previous owner did not fully clean it of cosmoline so I have some more work to do... Pics when I clean it up My local FFL who is a great guy and did the transfer told me that bayonets are entirely illegal in NY, but still le...

Re: Unknown Chinese type 56 SKS, Un sporterizing

Now I have a question. I just got the blade stock in for hardware parts. The problem I'm having is the stock is gorgeous. I was originally thinking it had to be a re finished stock but it smells like cosmoline and there are cosmoline remnants in some of the hardware.. I actually want to use this sto...

Interesting. Not much is available right now except that, and Golden Tiger.

Spam cans are available. I might have to grab a can

Red Army Standard, golden tiger?

I got some Red Army Standard for my SKS, being cheap and available. Is Golden tiger the same thing? both seem to be cheap and somewhat available.. It's a little odd being in a white box that looks like it was just stamped with the logo and caliber. I have Tulammo for my Mosin that is coming soon. I ...

I always wished my 1932 Tula had a laminate stock. It had the same red lacquer finish.. I guess some things are meant to happen

Won a Mosin.

I bought a Chinese SKS from my coworker friend and it kind of got the itch going again.. I was going to buy a cosmoline fresh Chinese SKS, as an original complete gun. But the gun I have itself is actually really nice, just some assembly required.. My girlfriend gave the go ahead as long as it did n...

Re: Unknown Chinese type 56 SKS, Un sporterizing

I lost the bid on that chinese stock. So I bought a $50 stock on Gunbroker with all the needed parts that were removed from mine.. I'll probably give the blank stock away. It's a blade stock so I can't just use the whole thing

Re: Head space

sadly, Okie passed away and his gauges are no longer available. Firewerks sells copies of Okie's gauges which did piss okie off as I remember. I would never buy them because they are copies... An M44 that I had bought crate fresh failed a no go test horribly because of a mismatched bolt. I bought a ...

Re: Unknown Chinese type 56 SKS, Un sporterizing

does not appear to be cut, just hardware removed. I saw that stuff but it's pretty rusty, but a cheap stock can be found on Gun Broker where I could rob it of the same parts for this one.. Since this stock is in decent shape just needing the parts. Stocks on Gun Broker don't say what they are for ex...
