Not quite set up to reload, getting there but not yet. Of course I always pickup the brass anyway, but can't reload as of yet.

High grade 7.92 ammo, which one?

So for a high grade 8mm mauser round which one would you choose? Hornady vintage match, PPU 8mm match ammo, S&B 196gr FMJ or Yugo M75? All input appreciated!

Re: Is Mosin Nagant Military Surplus ammo steel core?

I have expierance with only their 182grn FMJ-BT, I would do the 150gr soft point made by them. If you reload or even if you don't reload, try to pick up the PPU brass(if the range allows) becuase it is very good brass and you can sell it to others. Hope you have a great time at the range!

No problem, what date is on the headstamp? Until about mid-late 1960s x54r surplus is lead core unless denoted otherwise by a silver tip. After the late 1970s they dropped the silver tip on the x54r ball becuase it was all steelcore.

Re: Is Mosin Nagant Military Surplus ammo steel core?

Yes, it is most likely steel core.but it is mild steel core unlike true AP rounds which have a hardened steel core. If they do the "magnet test" most other commerical brands (like wolf or tula or brown bear) won't pass becuase it it bi-metal, which is a steel jacket over a lead core, for i...

Re: No Respect

I have found that tacticool guys with ARs leave after the mosin gets unleashed at the range.  I have seen this also. Mostly they get embarrassed and leave. A 75 dollar rifle out shooting their high dollar rifle and high dollar scopes pisses them off. You want to hear someth...

Re: Red Army 7.62x54R

Here's a link to another forum where it was discussed Ihttp://forums.gunboards.com/showthread.php?325929-new-red-army-ammo-corrosive, would've put that ammo in my surplus ammo can(keep two cans, 1 for surplus and the other for non corrosive), and shot at the next trip the range.
