Re: Any one live in California? (mostly a Mosin problem

Could you run one long cable through all of them maybe? I like this idea. The goal in my opinion is to keep the honest people honest. Keep young children from accessing them, if that is even an issue. Safes and gun cabinets that are CA DOJ approved only deter theft. Once again, keeps the honest peo...

Re: Lost Bid on Chatellerault Mosin 1895

I noticed that you were outbid. :very mad: I was watching that rifle too just to see what it would go for. I'm not surprised it went for so much and am also not surprised that a newbie ran the price up. Too much for me. :angry4: I wonder if shills are employed for raising bids? I.E. real estate auc...

Re: Newb questions Mosin Nagant Cleaning

Looks like it (PW). Sweet Rifle.  I have noticed a few rifles lately that also smell like campfire wood. I thought it was just me. I traded one of our forum members for a couple of Finn 9130's and they smelled (still do) like they were smoked :D Then another one I purchased was...

Re: Newb questions Mosin Nagant Cleaning

Yeah, I've noticed that. I have one without the /25\ where the color is distinctly red, not orange. And I've seen /25\ with no orange. I've also seen the /25\ virtually scrubbed where I needed a magnifying glass to see it. I've also seen where the stamp is only 1/2 a stamp (or less). Some have colo...

Re: Newb questions Mosin Nagant Cleaning

BTW............. :dont: OK, I just finished cleaning the red paint rifle.( Looks orange to me :) ) BTW, I used FrogLube CLP to wipe down the entire rifle. I love this stuff. One other thing, I couldn't help noticing that the stock on the red paint rifle, smelled like a campfire. I have cleaned thre...

Well I did not ruin mine,..I took the cleaning rod out first. Then used a tad oil and they slid right off. Wow, I feel like I really am learning here..Judi and her Mosin's ;mywink;
Yeah, I generously lubricated the stock and the bands. I was still a beast to slide off and on. :)

Re: Newb questions Mosin Nagant Cleaning

I have a 91/30 that has orange paint in the numbers, on the rear sight, the serial number on the barrel and the serial number on the butt plate. Do collectors remove the paint or leave as is? And, why is it painted? Thanks The Red Letter rifles are a topic of regular discussion. There is no answer ...

Re: Newb questions Mosin Nagant Cleaning

Use the Q tip with a tiny bit of Vodka, or other alcohol, work one tiny area at a time carefully. Leave the paint, it will fall out on it's own over time. Next time stick the tips of a pair of needle nose pliers ( I use my leatherman tool) into the joint at the bottom of the band with the cleaning ...

Newb questions Mosin Nagant Cleaning

If this has already been covered, my apologies. I did a search and came up empty. Removing the barrel bands, I scared up the shellac finish on the stock. I was told to use denatured alcohol and a Q tip, soften the shellac around the scared area and blend. Has anyone done this and how well does it wo...

Arsenal Finish or Refinished?

I'm looking at this M38 but I'm not familiar with the finish on the stock. Worn varnish? Any guesses?

Re: T53 or M53 ????

O.K. so it depends on who the conversation is with. Seems each side could make a case of what to call it regardless of what could be considered proper. I am sure Gander would say that that is what they were told, that is what the markings are etc. etc. Surprised no comment on the price of 199.00 ??...

Re: Need some help VKT M39

I'm also looking at a M39 No Maker -1968 -excellent (as un-issued) -100% bluing -stock new post war stock -mirror sharp bore with strong rifling. Is one considered more collectible than the other? Also, I'm in California and asking prices are higher than those that are being suggested. I mean, Big 5...

Are the plug repairs common to the Finnsh stocks?

Re: Is someting wrong with me???????????

Hi, I'm Rob and I'm a Mosin Nagant addict. I've been on the forum a very short time and I'm struggling with this dilemma. I've always considered a Mosin Nagant the cheap rifle that's cheap to shoot and you can beat on it without worry. Perhaps it still is that, but I've become fascinated by it's his...

Re: How Are Mosins Graded ?

A Good Start. I feel more informed and at least, have a basis that will help me assess the condition of a rifle relative to it's asking price. That's what I was looking for. I understand that value is subjective . What I find interesting or curious about a rifle , others may or may not. Again, thank...
