Re: ignorant new BP owner

Thanks again to both of you - I do believe I need to locate some locals that know what they are doing with BP. I see that some expertise is called for, so as to both treat the rifle properly, and not do unwelcome damage.

Re: ignorant new BP owner

IWWIW & desdem12 - As to BP: I do have on hand a pound of Goex ffg. Is this suitable even for the main charge? Pure chance that a friend had it, and no need for it. I had no idea that BP was so difficult to have access to! When I was a kid, my brother and I made our own BP to load into our expen...

Re: M1 Carbine problem

GM - Thanks for a useful reply. As soon as I had a definite problem rearing its ugly head, the rifle went to a local gunsmith for safety evaluation. No mechanical or fouling problems found. It has been stripped and thoroughly cleaned a number of times. I added a new gas piston and nut, just to be su...

Re: New Members, Make your first post here!

JYD - Thank you for the educational reply - it is appreciated. As to single loose round loading - "Most of us use them for display only and just load rounds one at a time, it's easier, and nobody is shooting at us on the range - YET!" I guess having semi-autos with multiple detachable maga...

ignorant new BP owner

I was very fortunate to win a beautiful 2013 flintlock, with powder horns and beaded scabbard. Now mounted in my living room, with a couple of modern rifles. My biggest problem is no background, no training, no BP close friends, and no ffffg to prime it with! The local gun merchants have a couple of...

M1 Carbine problem

I bought a very used M1 Carbine for my wife - short, light, semi-auto and light recoil - perfect! Only problem, it tends to stove pipe too frequently, and the wife is not at all happy about that. I am guessing (a bald admission) that the chamber is not military spec. as the cartridges eject with som...

Re: New Members, Make your first post here!

Another new member - sailortoo. First time owner of a 1940 91/30, and learning the basics by guess and by golly. Found this forum to pick brains. First question is the super tight bayonet! I cannot mount it, and have read that the point of that was "put it on, and leave it on". Don't have ...
